Question about Geo Prizm

2 Answers

I had a new radiator installed in 1995 geo prizm & now only get barely cool air from air conditioner, which immediately prior to installation was ice cold. Mechanic is saying there's no connection between the 2. I'm thinking he must have done something wrong.

Hi Agarger,
Your 'fixit' guy is correct....However, if he caused a leakage from the condenser (the thin radiator like equipment, mounted in front of the radiator) I'd suggest that you check to see if the gas pressure is correct and if not, have it inspected for leakage, if necessary have it repaired and then re-gassed....

Ask him if he remove the condenser prior to install the new radiator?
have your system check for refrigerant level, if it is low, then it could have leaked out, or it was removed and not properly charged after installing the radiator, or they could have touched on the lines of the ac that made it leak some gas.

a lot of things could have happened.

tnx 4 using fixya,

I have a 95 geo prizm 1.6 l engine I found out that my downstream oxygen sensor before I bought it some one had cut the wires and spliced them with what I think is a vacuum cleaner cord and the wires r...

If you understand what is going on under your hood.. the wires being spliced May not be your problem. Check that they are not bare if they are then fix it. The problem may be a dirty intake due to the engine overloading all the time. When it's cold it runs good since that's what the choke does. Take your air filter off and follow the tubing to the aluminum intake. Clean that out very good with a rag full of carburetor cleaner.

Need to know what fuse turns on the aircondition in geo prizm 1994

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
In the geo prism the fuse for the air conditioner is located in the passenger side behind a panel about 8 inches up from the floor just in front of the door you need to remove some screws to get the panels off and it is fairly hard to see ok it should be a 20 amp fuse

Radiator installation on 2003 Kia Sorento

That is a VERY easy radiator.
Loosen radiator drain plug and drain coolant from radiator.
Disconnect cooling fan connectorsRemove upper and lower radiator hoses after marking them to ease installation.
For vehicles equipped with automatic transaxles, disconnect transmission cooler lines at transaxle.
Remove air conditioner condenser fixing bolts and radiator bracket fixing nuts.
Remove the radiator, radiator cooling fan, air conditioning cooling fan and transmission cooler lines from the vehicle as an assembly.
Transfer all necessary parts (fan assemblies, cooler lines, clips, speed nuts, fittings, etc.) to the new radiator.

Reverse procedure to install.

Fill and bleed cooling system.

Why does my 1994 geo prizm tend to almost overheat wih a/c on?

There are two possiblities that come to mind. Low coolant level with a very big air bubble may not permit proper cooling (too much air in the cooling system so add more liquid) or the second thing could be that the thermostat is not the proper rating for your gauge to remain below the middle level. You should try replacing the thermostat with a 180 degree thermostat (yes again and make sure orientation of the thermostat is correct... not upside down) and if the NEW thermostat is "good" it will stay near the middle regardless of whether the AC is on or not. You should also carefully check for coolant leaks or a reservoir tank crack, a loose fitting radiator cap with a worn o-ring or anything that would keep the system from being pressurized since pressure and glycol are what prevents the water from boiling in the cooling system.

How do you replace headlight on 95 prizm

access should be available under hood between grill and radiator. Locate light housing and there will be a retaining ring around the light bulb assembly. twist off collar. Bulb assembly will then come out. Remove and replace. Try not to handle bulb with bare hands.Best to replace both sides and one usually follows the other

Need to replace the starter on a 1994 Geo Prizm

starters are actually pretty easy. usually just 2 or 3 bolts holding it on. Just disconnect the battery first. Remove the bolts and the starter and then installation is reversal of removal.
Hope this helps,

All Models
See Figures 1 and 2
The thermostat and its built-in by-pass valve is installed on the inlet side of the water pump. Its purpose is to prevent overheating of the coolant by controlling the flow into the engine from the radiator. During warm up, the thermostat remains closed so that the coolant within the engine heats quickly and aids the warming up process.
As the coolant temperature increases, the thermostat gradually opens, allowing a supply of lower temperature coolant (from the radiator) to enter the water pump and circulate through the engine.

WARNING A thermostat with an internal by-pass should never be removed as a countermeasure to overheating. Removing the thermostat actually makes the problem worse because more coolant bypasses the radiator, thereby reducing cooling even more.
  1. Drain the cooling system and save the coolant for reuse.

CAUTION When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by the ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.
  1. Remove the water inlet housing and remove the thermostat. Carefully observe the positioning of the thermostat within the housing.

  1. Install the new thermostat in the housing, making sure it is in correctly. It is possible to install it backwards. Additionally, make certain that the air bleed valve aligns with the protrusion on the water inlet housing. Failure to observe this placement can result in poor air bleeding and possible overheating.

0900c15280047d7c.jpg enlarge_icon.gifenlarge_tooltip.gif Fig. Fig. 2: Correct placement of the air bleed valve during thermostat replacement
  1. Install the water inlet housing cover with a new gasket. Install the 2 hold down bolts and tighten them to 20 ft. lbs. Do not overtighten these bolts!
  2. Refill the cooling system with coolant.
  3. Start the engine. During the warm up period, observe the temperature gauge for normal behavior. Also during this period, check the water inlet housing area for any sign of leakage. Remember to check for leaks under both cold and hot conditions.
