Question about 1997 Saturn SL
You have said your car is an SL model, if it an SL or SL1 you will have the single overhead cam engine. There is a TSB from GM ablut heads that crack, I had a 96 SL1 that did the same thing, and I had to replace the cylinder head. Many people just put in a head gasket because it is so common on 4cyl cars. This will not fix your problem. What has happened is a presure galery that feeds oil to the cam on the head is cracked into a cooling passage, and the 45psi oil is being pulped slowly into the 15psi cooling system. You will probably need to replace rubber cooling and heater hoses as the oil will attack and weaken them, and set you up for possibly another problem down the road. I hope this was helpful.
