Dodge Intrepids are not very common in my country. If I remember right, the battery holder/bracket is very exact. It is possible that the new battery is slightly wide/longer and therefore would not be sitting squarely. If this is the case, then the clamp/cover would not fit rightly and would be misaligned. Pls correct me if I am wrong, your car has the battery on the wheel well driver's side front tire? The battery slightly bigger, either that or you need to redo the battery placement all over again.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

How do I replace timing belt on 2000 Dodge Intrepid R/T v6-3.5 L high output engine. Is there a book or somthing that will guide with with everything I need to know to get it right

Thank you for the inquiry. change-1997-dodge-intrepid-3_5l-800x800.jpg

Disconnect the negative (black) cable from the battery.

Remove all accessories that are in the way of the timing belt cover. The Intrepid's 3.5 liter engine and small engine bay make for very cramped working conditions; it is thus necessary to remove all engine accessories so that you can properly work on the timing belt. Begin by loosening the tension bolt on the alternator with a belt tensioner, then use a socket wrench to remove the bolts on the water pump, air condition compressor and power steering pump.

Remove the four bolts on the top timing belt cover, using a socket wrench, then remove the cover.

Use a jack to lift the front end of the Intrepid and place the front end securely on two jack stands. Get underneath the engine.

Remove the three bolts on the bottom timing belt cover, using a socket wrench, then remove the cover.

Use the belt tensioner to put some slack into the timing belt, then remove the belt from the pulleys with your hands.

Line up the pulleys, so that the engine is at the top dead center and the two marks on the camshaft are lined up with the marks on the cams.

Place the new timing belt over the pulleys, making sure not to move any of the pulleys in either direction.

Use the tensioner to tighten the belt.

Reattach the top and bottom timing belt covers and secure them in place, using the bolts you had removed earlier.

Reattach all of the accessories you have removed (in any order), using a socket wrench. When done, place the belts over the pulleys and return tension to them by using the belt tensioner to tighten the tension bolt on the alternator.

Attach the negative (black) battery cable to the battery.

How do you replace a battery in a 2003 intrepid

Remove the battery cover and disconnect the air cleaner that is beside it by popping it off.

Take off the cable ends from the battery terminals with a battery terminal puller. Take off the negative terminal first.

Slide the battery toward the wheel well and remove it from underneath the wheel well.

Use a wire brush to clean the surface that holds the battery. Clean the insides of the connector cables with a pointed wire brush. Keep your gloves on at all times to avoid getting acid on your hands.

Rinse off the cables and the battery tray or wipe them off with a damp cloth, and let them dry out.

Insert the new battery on the shelf, bringing it up through the wheel well. Pop the air cleaner back into place.

Place the correct cable on each terminal and tighten securely with pliers or a socket wrench. Replace the battery holder and cover.

I hope this helps

Good luck.

I got a 95 dodge intrepid that when the instrument panel doesnt work the transmission does not change gears the tac an the speed ometer does not work what would make it not work an why does...

Hello, I had this same problem with several of these intrepids My problem every time was the ignition switch. Replace the eletrical part of the ignition switch and you will never have the problem again. It is located on the left side of the sterring colum if you are looking at it from the driver seat under the plastic cover.

My 1999 Dodge Intrepid Battery Story

It's called a Battery Mount (base that the battery mounts onto) and a Battery Cover (cover that goes over battery). Prices vary depending on the car, but I believe $40+ for each part.

You should also check to see if there's an issue with your alternator the way you're going through batteries. It should read 13-14V +-.2V across the terminals with the car running and the alternator cranking.. If it's below 13, then it's undercharging your battery. If it's above 14V, then it's overcharging and damaging your battery
