Question about 2003 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

2003 Jetta TDI - Door locks open fuel door

Yesterday I pressed the unlock button on my key fob and the fuel door suddenly opened. As I explored the problem further I found that both the lock and unluck buttons on the key fob caused the fuel door to open. Also, opening the drivers door causes the fuel door to open. When I begin driving, and the doors automatically lock, the fuel door opens. At the same time this began, the drivers window stopped working. I can hear the motor running, but the window will not come down. All the other windows in the car work without problem. Any and all suggestion would be appreciated.

Look for a short in the wiring harness in the door. The wires from the door lead to the convenience module (controls the doors and windows and some other settings including remote fob) that is under the dash. It sounds like some wires are crossed. VWs are also notorious for having problems with window regulators. They make the windows go up and down and are in the doors. Something might have happen to that and it cause a short. VW just extended the warranty on the window regulators to seven years because of these problems so you should be able to take it to a dealer and not get charged (this is in the U.S. at least, don't know about the rest of the world). The extended warrranty was not limited to original owners but you might want to ask the service people about it first.

As a follow up, the fuel door switch is in the drivers door so tracing these wires to the point where you find a problem will probably be easiest rather than checking the whole harness and all the wires. I don't think the fuel door switch wires into the convenience module but if it does you could also have a bad module, but I kind of doubt this. If you do just get a new one at a junkyard and don't get ripped off at the dealer. I haven't had my door panel off in a while so I can't think of where the wires are all routed inside the door, I just know they all exit the door at the front and tie into a connector right after entering the main body behind a trim panel that is held on by the hood release switch and a couple of clips. The hood release switch comes off by sliding a C shaped washer/clamp out the back around the pivot point. The trim panel should, I repeat should, just pull off after that.

2001 jetta door wont open when i unlock it

hi

it sounds like the lock or module is faulty

you will have to remove the inside door trim and check to see if any thing has come off or if anything is broken

if it all looks intact and its not responding to the inside lock or maybe just the outside key

then it sounds like the lock is faulty or something attached to the lock

You are going to need to check the power lock control moduel on the inside of the door panel. If the FOB appears to be working but the doors are not unlocking, you need to check this. I would also replace all fuses that control the locks. If both of these devices check out ok, you may need to replace your FOB. To check your power lock control moduel, manually lock and unlock your doors by pressing the lock button on the inside of the door. If it does not work, it is either the fuses or the power lock control moduel. If it works, your FOB has gone bad. Hope this helps! Please rate 4 thumbs up!

Petrol Fuel Cap door won't open

I had the same problem. Pressing the fuel door unlock button did not work, and I couldn't find any emergency release in the cargo/trunk area. Eventually, I clicked the Lock / Unlock button on the key fob a couple of times and tried again, this time holding the fuel door release button for 1-2 seconds, and it worked. I then sprayed some door lock lubricant into the fuel door lock in case there was something sticking in the mechanism. Don't know if this truly "fixed" the problem, but it's working now.

Program a remote key for 03 A6

I have an A4 and did this to re-program my key:

1. used the key to start the car...then turned it off
2. put the key in the driver door (door closed)
3. pressed the lock button on the key fob once
4. turned the key to lock the door.

This is basically the steps in the owners manual, but the car must be started with the key first, and the key must be in the door lock before pressing the lock button.
