Inside floor lights

Can't get lights to shut off without removing fuse. Sure it is something simple, but can't figure it.

Why is there no power to blower motor?


It could be something as simple as a blown fuse or the blower speed switch is bad.

I would first check the fuse for power with the key on. Check both sides to make sure it's at least receiving power. You can use a cheap tester that lights up for the check.

IF the fuse checks OK then it's time to check the blower switch or make sure the heater selector isn't in the "OFF" position.

On some GM vehicle the heater control selector that lets you adjust from floor, to defrost, to dash vents, etc. has an "OFF" position when the selector is adjusted to the far left.

Without physically being there to actually look at it, these are the only suggestions I can come up with.

Why don't I get heat out of floor vents?


In most cases it is the air blend door inside of dash or a blend door actuator which opens and closes the door...What these do is open and shut to direct the air from Top,center,and floor passage tunnels inside of dash....Or if you are lucky it can be a problem at the control knob that switches it from floor to defrost to vent...You will have to remove control panel and inspect behind it....On some vehicles it can be just a simple worn control knob...I Need to know what type of vehicle and how many miles are on it..before I can guide you through the procedure ....Don't just pull the dash for no reason when it could be simple.....

Have 2002 Bonneville, shut car off now have no power, no lights, horn nothing. Can wiggle ignition key, relays start clicking even with ignition off and key removed, will drain battery and battery...


Could be, sounds like a big electrical short somewhere. First check that it didn't kill your battery. Have it tested. If it is old, just replace it- you have to have a fully charged battery to do any checking or testing. Check all your fuses, and it would really be good to know there is power to the fuse. All of the maxi fuses are hot at all times. Use a simple test light to check they have power-one will feed the ignition switch and one or two others are for the head lights and lighting. You can check every fuse on the car, both underhood and inside the car at those fuse panels -with key on EVERY fuse on the car should have power to it. Just touch the test light probe to the top end of the fuse, that little indent is a test port to check for power. Every fuse has those openings, one at each end. A good fuse will light your testlight at both ends of the fuse. A bad or blown fuse will only light one end of the test light.
You may have lost power right off the battery if nothing works. How warm were those battery terminals? A poor connection will create a lot of heat, but that would likely be hot hot...lol
Start with a fresh battery, make sure cables and connections are good, make sure the fuses are good and have power, then hit the switch-if it blows something, bad switch or a short in a wire.

2004 mercury mountaineer got lock in park today,, got it undone. Noticed it said check fuse for the breaks.. I had no break lights.. well, can't figure out which fuse that is.


BRAKE LIGHTS AND SHIFT LOCK
Look under the dash, on the brake pedal arm. There are one or two switches that activate brake lights and/or shift unlock. Check for loose mounting nut or a missing rubber nubber. Is the brake pedal coming all the way back up? Look on the floor for something not usually found there. These switches are adjustable and it may be as simple as adjusting them. Have a helper look for brake lights on and shift lever unlocked while you push and release the switches with your finger. Depress the brake pedal to get it out of the way. Remember to set the park brake first. Could just be a bad switch or loose connector. Check fuses and the bulbs. Is shifter fully in Park?

My floor lights will not shut off when car is off and if i do not get them off my car will be dead. what do i do?


It sounds like you have a bad door jamb switch or a shorted wire on the interior light circuit. It would be best to remove the CTSY (courtesy) fuse, in the interior fuse panel (either under the steering column or inside the glove box).

Car keeps going dead overnight. we have checked the alternator and it is good, we just can't figure out what's wrong with it


You have a draw,something is pulling the battery down when the car is not in use,unplug the alternator,and let the car set over night to see if the battery stays up,make sure the light in the trunk,inside,and hood,are not left on,if the vehicle will start up the next day,then the alternator is bad.

Interior floor lights are staying on and wearing out my battery Not sure where fuse is to shut them off. I know where the fuse panel is under the steering column but don't know which fuse it is.All dimmer...


I am not positive on a Buick. But I can narrow your search down... the 3 letter abbreviation next to slot for the fuse on the box will end with L. xxL. It shouldn't hurt to pull them out one by one though with the key in Position 1. When the lights go out. you pulled the right fuse. (Just make sure to put them back in , ONE by one, only remove one at a time, replace it.. etc. Just as a word of warning, the floor lights might be on the same circuit as your Shift stick gear indicator (if you have an automatic), so after removing the fuse.. you MIGHT lose those lights as well. All 3 of my firebirds have circuits set up in this fashion.

Battery drain


When the car is shut off, there should be a very small load on the battery to keep the clock running, the security system on etc. But the amount of current is really small. If the battery is dying overnight, something is loading it;
Charge the battery right up.
Have ignition off, doors and trunk closed, no interior /exterior lights on and leave the driver door window open.
Take a fairly large automotive bulb like an 1157 or even a headlamp.
Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery.
Connect one wire to the negative terminal of the battery from the light, and the second light terminal to the negative battery cable you diconnected; connecting the light in series. Don't put the negative battery terminal on the battery.

The bulb should not light if all your ignition system is off and you have no lights turned on.

Turn on the lights or blow the horn by poking through the open window without opening the door, the test light should light and the horn sound.

If the light lights without anything being on, then you have something constantly draining the battery.

Go to the fuse panel and remove and re-install each fuse one at a time from every circuit. You may have to close the interior light door switch by pushing it with something while you are getting to the fuses so the circuit is in the off state all the time. Everything has to remain off.

When the light goes off when you removed a fuse, that is the circuit which is loading the battery. Check the fuse description for the circuit affected.

My guess is a trunk light that stays on even when the trunk is shut. If it is a lighting system fuse causing the problem, remove the trunk bulb and replace the fuse. If the light goes off, the trunk switch is defective keeping the light on all the time.

You can also place a battery charger on the battery (connect the negative back on the battery) and go and check the car in the dark. Is there a light on like a floor lighting in the interior? Do you have a light on under the hood that can't be seen during the day?

Always make sure you have a good charged battery, and that the terminals are really clean before you start analyzing the problem.
Does the alternator charge the battery? Check by measuring the volatge across the battery engine off, no charger connected; should be 12V or close.
Start the car, the meter should read 14V or so, but more than without engine running. If not, the alternator/charging circuit may be the real problem.

Car radio and clock quit working


I figured out that it was just a blown fuse after all the work of pulling the light bulbs. Changing the fuse for the radio fixed the interior light problem go figure.
