I have a 2001 SL1 Saturn that started turning over slowly before it would crank yesterday. Once cranked it was fine. Today I went to crank it and it turned over slowly a few times before it stopped and clicked. What would make it do this. The battery seems fine because the headlights and all work. Thanks, Jared

It's the battery. Remove and have it tested at your local auto parts store. If you can jump start it go ahead and remove the negative battery cable while the car is on and if it turns off after you unplug your cable then your alternator is bad, if that's the case, then you may need to replace both at the same time since a bad alternator can fry the battery. If the car stays on after you remove the negative battery cable then the alternator is doing it's job and is OK, all you need is a new battery. Good luck

Check fuel pressure at the injector rail. If good, suspect crankshaft position sensor--when it fails to start, check for sparks by pulling an ignition wire off the coils and holding it close to the coil with an insulated tool while someone cranks the engine. If no sparks, replace the sensor.

When you say it won't turn over, do you mean when you turn the key, nothing at all happens? Are you sure the battery isn't dead?

Il.com i have 2001 saturn sl1, i have full power but will not turn over, no cranking, no clicking, nothing

If it is an Automatic transmission, try putting it in Neutral and retry. Sometimes they don't always get into park all of the way, and you can only start an automatic car in park or neutral.

Vehicle cranks but won't turn over

First you need to check for spark and if that is okay you need to check for fuel pressure/volume. sounds like a possible bad fuel pump. you can also try hitting the fuel tank with a rubber mallet while cranking. If the van then starts you need a new fuel pump
