Question about 2000 Volvo C70

1 Answer

Alternator My 2000 C70 was not cranking properly, after taking it to local dealership they said it was my battery being 8yrs old. They changed the battery and 6 days later the car cut off while driving. After letting battery build back up it would crank and drive a few more miles then cut back off. I took my volt meter and checked the wire on the back of Alt. while car was running and only had 10 volts DC. Ineed to know the best way to get the Alt. off of the engine. The dealership said it is a 3hr job and will cost $725.

I have a 2001 C70 and it is doing the same thing. I took it to the dealer and they said it needs a new battery. I went cheap and replaced the battery on my own. After charging the new battery it will start and idle, but it will not rev up when I push on the pedal.

If I hook my new battery to another battery with jumper cables it will rev up just fine and as soon as I pull the jumper cables in wont rev up again. It will just continue to idle.

    Please Help!

If u can post a picture of under the hood, then i could help ya. Sometimes, if ur lucky, the connector from the alternator to the battery gets dirty. Try unplugging it and cleaning it( DO NOT USE BRAKE CLEANER FLUID, IT MELTS PLATIC CONNECTORS),also check for rust or grime, and while ur at it, check the wire from the battery to the alternator. Sometimes the wire can break but since its isolated in plastic, u won't really see if it is broken. Do a continuity test on that wire with a multi meter. Good luck.

Battery went flat, I charged battery, and now it won't start, fire.

Here are trouble shooting tips.
Most common answers you will hear, are it's the battery old or you may just need to check and clean the terminals for a good connection. Can take battery to local car parts place and have them check it.
Alternator - but if you have headlights working and they are not real dim its probably not.
Starter - but if the engine is cranking, prob. not.

Have a 2000 dodge durango w/new batter, blower all lights work but battery wont take charge??????????????????????

If you have changed the battery, have it load tested to make sure it is not defective.
A tech can also check the voltage output and regulator. I am assuming you have already had these two check done as well as ECM error codes. The PCM, powertrain control module would be my next component to have checked. A dealership should have the software to check this. I believe that the OEM part runs around $8 to $900.00 dollars. You may be able to get an aftermarket replacement for around $200, but once installed electrical components are not returnable. Do not get stranded somewhere, have a dealship check this problem out!

What is wrong when the milage indicator starts to flash on my KA car

It needs a proxy alignment in your local dealership, it can be caused by flay battery, leads being disconnected, a bad connection, being jump started or a faulty alternator, what happens is the ECU fails to locate certain systems due to one of the above mentioned and flashes the mileage to warn of the issue. Its a common fault in Ford KA's and easily rectified in your local dealership. Hope it helps.

Battery goes dead ,new battery, altenator working

If it goes dead, it has to do with the charging system. Make sure the terminals are cleaned and they have good contact. You may need to redo them or may need new ones. Make sure all wires are correctly on, starter and alternator. Make sure the wires to both are not damaged. Make sure all wires are in the right spot. Make sure nothing is being left on to drain the battery. Make sure your alternator is good Steve. You can start the car and take off your hot side terminal. If the car dies instantly, change the alternator. If it stays on, you have a bad connection in the charging system more then likely. If you have any questions, just let me know.

2000 nisaan sentra, battery light and brake light pops on periodically, took it to dealership, they said all the reading was good on the battery and alternator, they just to change the battery cables did...

its a bad alternator, a bad diode, replace the alternator this will solve your problem, when these alternators go bad the dash lights come on,it sounds like it sometimes charges and other times not,the car was charging when they got it so they really couldnt find much, ive run into this alot, check the connection at the alternator and battery if connections are good then replace the alternator, good luck.

2004 Volvo C70 immobilizer problems

I had the same issues with my 2004 C70 and it almost drove me to distraction. It would get up to about 1500 revs and then cut out. Then when I tried to re-start it it refused to start up at all. As with your car, sometimes it was just fine and others it could take half and hour before I could get it to start again. It turned out there were 2 problems. The first problem was fixed by a new rev sensor and the second by a new antenna ring. It's been fine for the last month. Volvo are aware and my excellent local dealer charged just £182 for a complete fix.
