If you are talking about the steering rack boots, you cam just take a hacksaw and make a small cut right behind the locking nut on the inner tie rod ond shaft. The nut that you need to loosen a bit to take the outer tie rod end off. make a small cut right behind it, so you can see where to stop wit it when you put the whole assemble/boots back on. That would be what I would do, if I didn't want to get it aligned after. It will be close enough, but I would keep an eye on your tires to make sure, they are not wearing off faster than normal. If you talking CV boots, different procedure. Let me know.

Yes, but it is usually cheaper and better to buy a remanufactured steering rack. Remember to get the car realigned after replacing the rack. Also top off the lost power steering fluid.

Leaking from right dust boot, when i say leak i mean the whole contents of the reservoir blows out of the dust boot

I am assuming you are talking about the power steering rack boot. This means the the seal on the end of the steering rack has blown out. You will need to get a remanufactured rack and pinion, install it, and realign the vehicle

On a 88 Maxima there is a leak from a broken seal or gasket behind drivers front tire.

You should be able to tell if the leak is
from inside the steering rack bellows (Boot)

If you see there is--- no fix-- as the rack is rebuilt in a factory
not serviced on car.

May just be a leaking steering hose

Next to the tire is the drive axle boot & just grease inside
Unfortunately you have to remove the axle to clean cv joint
add new grease & boot kit or 90% of the time replace the
axle as dirt has ruined it

I have a major power steering leak i cant track and its not coming from the pump

What can commonly happen is the seals inside the rack and pinion and allows the fluid to fill the bellow boot(accordion boot). Take a small pick and poke the boot on the steering linkage. If fluid pours out, replace the rack and pinion unit and then have it aligned. If you need further instructions, feel free to let me know.

Cv joint disassemble to install boot

I wouldn't disassemble the axle and install a new boot. 90% of the time if you've failed a boot, the axle has also been damaged, and with the low cost of off the shelf replacement axles, PLUS the time savings you can get by swapping in an entire reman axle, it's not worth the efort. Trust me. I do 10 a week.

I just had my CV axles replaced on my 96 maxima. I tried to get it inspected and was rejected for the bellow boot. Does this have anything to do with axles and how much is THIS one going to cost me? Please...

The bellows boot is the rubber accordian like shaped piece that protects the axle from water and debris entering into the axle, which is covered in grease, and prevents the axle from premature wear. This should have been take care of when the CV axles were replaced. (if it is indeed the bellows boot for the CV axle.)

What do bellow boots do?

all they do is keep dirt and water from getting into the steering unit, they are seals, if your steering is acting up it is to late, the damage has been done by the torn boot.
