Tip & How-To about 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Speedometer and tachometer erratic!

Occationally, when resetting the trip odometer, the two gauges go to
full scale and then return to below zero and remain even while driving!
(somewhat disturbing and dangerous. I found that , at rest, pushing and
holding the trip odo for a few seconds would result in an apparent self-test
and then a return to "normal" operation of both gauges! Is this a built
in self-test procedure ???

Why does fuel gauge stay above full?

In the mean time you may want to adopt the system I have done with my MY98. I reset the trip odometer at each fill-up. I have always had plenty of reserve in the tank when I refill at 300 miles driven. It is annoying but after 7 years I have learned to live with it. My tank contains 23 gallons and I usually have 6 or more gallons remaining at fill-up.

The expense of dropping the tank and having the repair vs the always check before travel the trip odometer has worked out for me. I have learned this process from boating where the fuel gauges can never be trusted.

oil pressure guage not registering

The oil pressure gauge on a 2004 WJ doesn t really show the pressure, but it will go to a preset value when pressure is ok, or it will stay at o PSI. So you need a pressure switch on this jeep and not a pressure sending unit. If the right unit is installed, then or the pressure indicator is faulty, or wiring. Do a test of the instrument panel to see if the indicator works: ignition switch in off, press the odometer reset button and now switch ignition in run. Instrument panel will start a self test, all lights will come on and all meters will go full scale and return to normal.

the odometer and RPM gauge on 03 SXT are stuck. They went 360 back

Try this, it works on other Chrysler products.

Insert key and turn to run position. put odometer on the trip position. turn key off.

While holding trip meter reset button in, turn key to run position ( dash lights will be on ) release trip meter reset button and watch the gauge cluster go through a test cycle.

After this cycle the gauges should return back to normal.

Hope this works for you.

The service indicator can be reset as follows: Place the key in position 1, push and hold the trip odometer reset, the trip odometer will zero, turn the key to position 2 while continuing to hold the trip odometer reset. The odometer number will return to the previous value and the service indicator will be reset.
