used the key to unlock door and alarm started going off. put key in ignition to start, but wouldn't. removed battery cable, do to neighbors, and the alarm keeps sounding. how can I shut it off? just replaced batteries in remote, haven't tried it yet.

With the drivers window down, and the doors closed. and locked connect the battery and lock and unlock the tailgate with the key, you need to unlock it twice to unlock the doors and turn off the alarm. If the locks are working like thier supposed to the drivers door will be unlocked and opening it won't set off the alarm. the truck should be back to normal. If not disconnect the battery again. Drivers window down. Put the key in the switch and turn the key on to the run position. With all the doors closed connect the battery. connect it good and don't bounce it around. If the battery casbles aren't clean clean them good so it'll connect good. If it still is alarming then the doors switches are likly. Or the door locking motors. You should be able to lock all the doors ( including the hatch) by hand and get the system to reset. Try it all again using a different door to double unlock as a lock switch might be sticking. If the system can't verify that all the doors are closed and locked it won't reset. If you connect the battery wihg the key turned on the system thinks it's already running and appeares to be in the unset mode.

1997 jetta will not start. the battery has been disconnected and charged. Is it true that when the power has been disconnected that there are some security steps to go through before the car can be started. Maybe something to do with the door locks or something? Thanks, Rob

all vw MUST be reset after battery dies/changed.put key in door,unlock/hold key over 30 secs(windows go down)then lock/hold key over 30 secs(windows go up/sunroof closes)then press unlock button on remote for 30 secs......RESET DONE......(try this for fun....sit in car after turning off engine/remove key, drivers door keypad is still live(until you open door)ALSO when engine is running lower any window and then raise up with fingers in top of door, the window will rollback.(if you do it once it hurts..twice it really hurts..three times it traps your hand in.)ALL THIS is NOT in the handbook.......
