Tip & How-To about Ford Excursion

Generalized tip for all cars.

Many of us have been asked to provide a "jump" to another person's car with jumper cables, or vice-versa. In the old days this may have been perfectly fine. But with today's newer cars that have sensitive electronics, it is a bad idea to give or get a "jump" unless there is not any other option. The rapid fluctuation in voltage can damage sensitive electronic components. If you do need to give or get a jump, do not be surprised if a new problem occurs after jumping.

jumper cables hooked up backwards

a good rule of thumb when jump starting your auto from another ones is that sometimes the problems go from one auto to the other. if they had a bad starter this process could damage yours. i dunno how old yours is but if it turns over and just wont start you might have burnt out the points. is this an american model? if it is just replace the points and perhaps even the distributor cap.both relatively inexpensive and never hurts to have new ones. best of luck to ya mate.

Tried to jump start 94 chevy corvette and accidentally placed the negative cable on the positive terminal and vice versa. Got a new battery, but it only turns over. SYS flashing on dash screen. Help!

check to make sure no wires are melted apart. and also check fuses. espesially the main fuse. check the voltage from alternator to battery, it should be 14 to 14.3 when running. battery voltage should be about 13 volts when engine is off.
