what is the recommended spark plug gap for this engine?

Use the recommendations in the owners manual, where applicable. Different plug manufacturers may use different gaps? Some type spark plugs you don't gap, the gap is pre-set.

.043 gap should work ok.

What is the correct spark plug gap

I'd use the type spark plug recommended by your owners manual, the manual may also give you the gap. There may be a decal under your hood that gives this info. Anywhere you buy sparks will have the gap in the info. For one ngk plug I looked at, it said .043in gap.

Different spark plugs manufacturers may have different gap recommendations.

I have a 99 eclipse 2.0 manual. It has a rough idle when u slowly give it gas it seems to run ok. But when u give it gas fast it flutters and bogs down and will not get up and go. I changed the spark plugs and didnt help at all.

Have gapped the spark plug? Adjust the timing? If haven;t done these, my advise would be to bring ur car to a mechanic and adjust the timing and set the gap of the plugs!
