brakes are out. Master looks ok. Can't find lines under engine to follow. no cheater book to ckeck with.

Master cyclinders never look OK. You have to fill em full of brake fluild ( all the way to the top) and pump the breaks lots and hard. recheck the fluild and if it went down look under the truck to see where it's coming out. If you can't find it look in the floor under the break pedal where the pedal rod goes though the floor. Fluild coming out here is a bad master cyclinder, if no leak is found put in still more fluild and pump till you find wher it's runnung out. if the fliuld stays full and the pedal goes all the way down the master is bad. Masters fail alot on older Isuzu trucks.

I have a 2000 SL-1. Is there a mileage at which time I replace power steering fluid and/or brake fluid?

10 years is long enough but the service manual wants you to change the brake fluild everytime the brakes are worked on ( new front pads.) As the trama of the brake failing adds extra heat and the fliuild needs to be changed as it's damaged. the power steering fluild as well it should be changed every couple of yearsand mileage is'nt as important as time. If it smellsw bad or looks bad change it. One of my customers cars gets nosy and we change the fluild and it's fine but we end up having to do it every few months.

brake bleeding procedure

make sure you have plenty of fluid in the resivoir. Turn the steering either right or left to access the bleeder valve. You will need a second to pump the break pedal at least three times and hold on the third. Break the bleeder loose. Only enough to blow air and/or fluid out. When it stops blowing (only lasts a second), tighten the valve up. Remember the second person CANNOT release pressure from the pedal until you tell them. Repeat this procedure until only fluid comes out with no air. Check the fluid level again and do same procedure for all four wheels. Use loud communication to tell your helper what to do. Example : "pump it up. Hold on three. Say when." then the helper will say "ok". You bleed and lock it back. Yell, "pump it up. Say when" this should resolve the issue. DO NOT LET THE RESIVOIR RUN DRY!

rear cylinder brakes leaking brake fluid

The cyclinder costs about 10 bucks at the partds store and if you change it before the fluild gets on the shoes your done of course the shoes being worn out are the readon most cyclinders leak. Shoes cost about 25 bucks and if you pay someone to do the work they should reconmend that whatever you do to one side you should do to the other side. turn or replace the drums repalace the springs ( 10 bucks) replace both wheel cylinders, Bleed the bakes all the way around till theirs new fluild in the whole system. If you not handy working on brakes have somone who is help you or hire the work done. The life you might save could be your own.
