Tip & How-To about Chevrolet Blazer

4.3 vortec engines

If you done a tune up and the engine still is not running right. Before you go and replace alot of sensors and computers, pull the distributor out and check the drive gear on the bottom. if it worn even a little replace it. alittle wear will cause an engine to shake. i've worked on them were th engine was spittin and sputterin. the gear was chew about half way thru. replaced it and it purred like a kitten. to do the job you need to
1 pull the wires on one side of the cap and mark them
2 pull the cap
3 pay close attension to where the rotor button is pointing, mark the direction if possible
4 remove the 10 mm bolt that holds the distributor in place
5 pull the distrubutor up and out
6 check the gear. if there is no wear replace in reverse order
7 to remove the gear you need a punch pin, knock the shear pin out of the hole pull off gear and replace with new one. replace shear pin.
8 reassemble in reverse order.
good luck

Dodge stratus misfire, runs rough has random misfires in cylinder 1,3,and 5 and a vacuum leak, I,m not too worried about the leak unless it is related to the misfire

I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR.MARK LOCATION OF ROTOR OR MAKE NOTE SO YOU CAN INSTALL NEW ROTOR IN CORRECT FIRING POSITION. IF THIS CAR HAS A LOT OF MILES I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP, ROTOR.SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.REPLACE IGNITION COIL.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS, FILL GAS TANK UP TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS POUR CAN SEAFOAM IN FUEL TANK IT WILL FLUSH OUT THE FUEL INJECTORS WHILE ENGINE RUNNING OR DRIVING CAR. REPLACE FUEL FILTER. REASON I SAY DO A TUNE UP PROBLEM COULD BE MINOR FIX.COULD NEED TUNE UP.IF TUNE UP DONT HELP THEN YOUR PROBLEM IS DISTRIBUTOR OR THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR INSIDE OF DISTRIBUTOR.THAT WOULD SET OFF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BUT I WOULD SAY TUNE UP COULD FIX PROBLEM.

I am smelling fuel and it burns alot of gas.

Check for leaks, service engine lights since CTS (Coolant temp sensor) can cause the vehicle to run rich. Keep in mind that there is a lot of Ethenol in our gas that is lowing the gas mileage on our vehicles. The canister purge tank can cause gas smell if it isn't working right, but the computer should give you a service engine light on any of these.

Hello I have a 2000 Frontier 2 wheel drive and I'm not sure what's going on with it, @about 2000rpm the engine wants to jump and spit and sputter I have replaced the fuel filter, plugs, wires, and the distributor cap some insight would sure help. Thank you in advance

your feeling what Nissan refers to as limp mode (also known as fail safe ) Nissan computer strategy is when its detects a computer sensor (that could cause engine damage)has failed,or your engine for any other reason is running in a way that could cause severe engine damage is to make your engine run at limited rpm until the concern is repaired,I would assume your check engine light must be on, if not the bulb in the dash may be bad, anyways the best route is to have the engine control module scan for trouble codes which will get you headed in the right direction.

timing putting it back in time

Resetting the timing is easier than it sounds. You can "fine tune" the timing using the distributor. First be sure the plug wires are connected properly to the distributor cap and spark plugs. Make sure the rotor is on it's post properly. Once these steps are done, loosen the screw under the edge of the distributor that keeps it locked in position so that you can turn the entire distributor. Next start the car and be careful when you touch the distributor as it has electrical current running through it and turn it slightly monitoring the engine to see if it runs better or worse. If it gets worse turn it the other direction. Once the engine runs properly secure the screw.

If the engine is running rough still the firing order is probably off. The order should be: 1 2 3 4 5 6 Distributor turns clockwise.
Right, or back bank of cylinders are the odd numbered ones.

Good luck to you
