Tip & How-To about Chevrolet C1500

Car still running poorly

After you've done your tune up, changed the fuel filter and all the other filters, Your car still seems to run poorly, then try this before you go to the auto shop. Go to the parts store and purchase a can of brake clean, any brand will do, Pull the air intake plenum/ air hose off the throttle body, First take a small brush and brake clean and clean the inside and backside of the throttle plates as best as possible, Then start the engine,it may take a minute, but it will start. Then rev the engine up and spray some of the brake clean into the throttle, do this a couple of times, you don't have to use all the brake clean. The results are almost immeadiate. And of course
it is always better to take the throttle body off to clean if you have the know how and it is accessable

cause for lack of power from v6

Have you done a tune up on the car? Change the spark plugs, check and change the intake filter and fuel filter, and add some fuel additive to restore the power back to the engine.

poor fuel milage

try changing fuel filter and making sure tire pressure is correct keep your car clean so air can flow freely and try an oil change all these factor into good gas mileage and you could try adding new plug wires to your tune up

my 2000 cavalier, 2.2L runs real smooth while driving on a road or street, but when stopped at a street light at idol it seems to run rough and the tach fluctuates. also seems to be getting poor fuel mileage.

I would recommend getting a tune up first and see if that changes how it runs. Also change your fuel filter and air filter. If it doesn't change then it could be a vacuum hose that's off or broke. Also Buy some Techron fuel injector cleaner and dump it in your tank this will help clean your injectors.Since there is no mention of a check engine light being on then this should help.

i am getting poor fuel economy. The truck has 88,800 miles. Fuel filter, and air filter were changed in 2011. The tailpipe is black and I run fuel injecter cleaner every 3000 miles.

Poor fuel economy can come from bad fuel or tune up.Try switching to a gas with a higher octane and give your truck a full tune up.This should help your fuel economy out a little.

Fuel Filter for Sport Trac

If the car is running good no engine problems or poor gas mileage I wouldn't worry about it. This is done as preventive maintenance. Every tune-up parts have replacement recommended periods. Ignition components, all filters and lubricants should all be replaced the most every six moths depending on how much you drive. Its all common sense if you check your oil and its black its time to change it. If your brakes are screeching same thing and if it been six month probably well over 15,000 miles since you replaced the fuel filter it'll be a good idea to change it.
