Tip & How-To about Ford Explorer

Oil change

You need to change your oil every 5,000 miles at the most. That’s really all there is to it. I actually read a blog online that said you can wait until your oil light comes on to change your oil. I’ve worked in the automotive business… by the time your oil light comes on, the oil inside your engine has turned into jet black molasses and is of no use to your engine. In the short term, I suppose it’s not that important, but more frequent changes can actually double the life of your car and greatly increase its performance.

how many miles before oil change is needed

I drive quite a few miles in my 1998 LEXUS LS40 and have religiously changed the oil every 5,000 miles (and rotated the tires). Im pushing 185,000 miles on it now and I am due to change the timing belt a second time next weekend. That being said, I have never had any issues with the engine changing the oil at a 5,000 mile interval. I use the standard synthetic blend oil at the local quick stop type oil change places.

Manufacturers vary on intervals recommended. However, the old rule is the best rule....change your oil and filter every 3,000-4,000 miles. If using synthetic (common ones available in stores) that interval can be extended to 4,000 to 5,000. More exotic synthetics (such as Amsoil, using their filter) run to 5,000 miles and replace filter and oil lost during filter change. Replace all oil at 10,000. Actually a good deal even though the oil runs about $10.00 per quart.

How often do I need to get my oil changed in my 2007 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer?

Well, that is a matter of opinion. I really prefer every 2500 miles. Your oil becomes contaminated unless FULLY heated up on every use. Oil can last a really long time, but failure in the oiling costs soooo much to repair, I just change more often. Perhaps costs less than a shrink....

how often does the oil need to be changedin my Lexus RX350. I drive about 40 mi/day - highway

Oil is cheap, compared to lubrication related repairs, I suggest that you consider every 2500 miles, as it is a round number (kind of). Manufactures have been extending change intervals, but most cars actually run under severe service, mostly due to shorter runs. You sound like better sceneario, the issue is contamination.

Oil changes help.
