Basic sensor testing 1/2/3 wire test don't presume it is the sensor.

There are three BASIC sensors,/ 1. wire that usually works off of ResistancesMORE or grounding./2.wier that sends a 5 volt signal.with a return signal to the computer./ 3.wire that has a 5 volt signal from the computer and a return data to the computer and the other weir is a ground.{ Always test using a digital volt oms. meter.}

Throttle Position Sensor/Switch (TPS) A Circuit Malfunction
The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is a potentiometer that is mounted to the throttle body. It detects the throttle blade angle. As the throttle blade moves, the TPS sends a signal to the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). Usually a three wire sensor: A 5 volt reference from the PCM to the TPS, a ground from the PCM to the TPS, and a signal return from the TPS to the PCM. The TPS sends the throttle position information back to the PCM on this signal wire. When the throttle is closed the signal is near .45 volts. At WOT (Wide Open Throttle) the TPS signal voltage will approach a full 5 volts. When the PCM sees a voltage that is outside of normal operating range, P0120 will set. NOTE: The PCM knows that any large change in throttle position means a cooresponding change in manifold pressure (MAP). On some models the PCM will monitor MAP and TPS operation for comparison. Meaning that if the PCM sees a large percentage change in throttle position, it expects to see a cooresponding change in manifold pressure and vice versa. If it doesn't see this comparitive change, P0120 may set.

Most TPS sensors are three wires volt reference, signal return, sensor ground. Place a DVOM meter on 2 volt scale probe signal return wire with throttle resting closed most are around 1 volt check a repair manual for proper idle reading.

looking for wiring diagram of plug to map sensor on 03 jeep wrangler


Step 1:

The orange wire is the power wire. You should have 5 volts on this wire with the key on.


Step 2:

The dark green w/red wire is the signal return. Voltage will vary on this wire from less than a volt to just under 5 volts depending on if the engine is off, running, or what RPMS the engine is running.

Step 3:

The black w/light blue is the sensor ground.

need wiring diagram for map sensor for 1993 850


If its a three wire sensor one is a ground , one is the 5 volt refrence and the other one is the signal .Key on the 5 volt refrence shuld be about 4.8 signal should be under 1 but above .5

what are the electrical readings on the throttle positioning sensor


The throttle position sensor has both an idle contact switch and a basic 3 wire potentiometer that measures throttle angle opening. The idle switch and the throttle potentiometer share a ground wire.
To test the sensor first you have to verify that the wiring is intact by
1. Disconect the sensor and with a volt meter check the 4 wires. I have attached a wire diagram and picture of the pin layout to make it easy for you.
Pin 1 ( Yellow wire) is the PCM reference voltage. Specification is 5V
Pin 2 ( Red and Green wire) is the signal wire for the TPS. Specification is 5V
Pin 3 (Blue and white wire) is the idle switch. Specification 5V. Please note that this circuit is not actually used by this year Sedona so some vehicles are missing the wire.
Pin 4 (Black and yellow wire) is the ground. Specification: continuity to ground ( less than 1 ohm)
If the voltages are correct next you want to check the sensor.
1. Connect the throttle sensor connector.
2. Key on engine off
3.With a voltmeter measure terminal 2 of the sensor with the throttle closed, Specification is .2 to.4 volts.
4. With ta voltmeter monitor terminal 2 with the throttle fully open.The specification on terminal 2 is 4 to 4.4 V.
5. Slowly open and close the throttle while monitoring terminal 2 and make sure you have a smoot increase and decrease in voltage as the throttle is moved from close to open throttle and returned to idle.
