Tip & How-To about Chevrolet Malibu
This problem can be from a problem with the security system. To test this theory on most cars turn the ignition to on and see if the security light continues flashing. If so this may be the problem. Most owners guides will tell you how to reset the system so the car will start. If not, one thing to try is leave the ignition on for a long time (10 minutes or so). When the security light stops flashing the car should start. This problem seems to be from the car ageing and the key not working as when the car was new.
We have used compressed air in the ignition and then put wd40 on the key and run it in and out. This seems to help with the recurring problem but doesn't make it go away.
I don't know the permanant fix. I suspect a new ignition switch which is not a cheap fix.
