Tip & How-To about Chevrolet C1500

Spark Plug Wire TEST

Are you curious if you have a bad spark plug wire? Get your hands on a OHM METER and allow 28,000 to 30,000 ohms per foot upon testing each one. If over that equivalent per foot they are good. If under 28,000 ohms its time to change that wire

how can I test a ignition moduale on a 1996 jetta?

Take each plug out of the head. ( 1 AT A TIME ONLY ) and have assistant turn over engine while you look at the plug. No spark = bad module. Or while engine is running plug plug wire from the plug ( 1 at a time ) a good working plug/ module will cause engine to running crappy when wire is removed. If you pull the plug wire on a plug that has a bad module the engine will not change in sound or idle. That's your bad plug/module. That's for engines with module/coil per cylinder. For engine with 1 module for all cylinders use a volt/ohm meter at the module . You will need to know the required ohm/resistance to know if it needs replacement .

Have a 97 Mitsubishi eclipse gs. idles rough at a stop but runs smooth once I give it gas. Check engine light is on. had scanned and all it reads is cylinder 1 misfire. Any ideas?

Guessing you have a diagnostic trouble code of P0301. I would start by checking the spark plug first but the most common causes for a single misfire in your vehicle would be a bad fuel injector or bad spark plug wire. Now I am going by you have the basic Eclipes GS and not the GS-T with a turbo and that you have a 2.0 liter with dual overhead cams. You can check the injector with an ohm meter simply by unpluging it and checking the reisistance from one terminal to the other on the injector (see picture below). The resistance should be between 11 & 15 ohms. If it's not within specs, then it is bad and you need to replace it. In most cases the plug in that cylinder will be black as well when you check it but that's not always the case. If that tests out good I would visualy inspect the spark plug wire for that cylinder to see if it arching out soemwhere. There are so many aftermarket plug wires that there really isn't a full proof way of checking it. According the the specs for the wires as if it had OEM spec wires would be 3,000 to 12,000 ohms per foot of resistance when checking end to end with an ohm meter. These are the things I would start checking and if I was a betting man I would guess the injector was bad. Hope this helps

engine rotates but will not start

did you replace the rotor as well? also did you test all the plugs? if so you may havea bad wire if youve tested all of them it may be a problem with the ignition coil if you have an ohm meter you can test the wires and the coil what kind of vehicle is it i may be able to find at what ohm you wires are good or bad and where you can check the coil as well

#1 spark plug not firing on 1993 chevy lumina

IF the spark plug is new
test the wire itself with an ohm meter
test the coil with an ohm meter

If spark plug is not new, try switching it with another cylinder to see if it is the plug

Should be able to isolate it
Best regards

Why would I get a big chunk of carbon buildup on the sparkplugs with only 7000 miles on them and only on 3 of 6 of them. It's whitish beige in color and a quarter inch of buildup.

That would be indication of weak spark (plug wires) you can test them if you have an ohm meter - anything over 8k ohms per foot - toss them. I would start there.
