How to get security code for your car radio

Hi, if you have this problem with your car's radio or entertainment system then the only thing you can do to get this code is by taking your car and owner's documents to your nearest main dealership.

The reason you can only get the code from a main dealership is that the car company's when the fit any entertainment system they have to by law put in security measures to put thieves off targeting your car for the entertainment system. So the car company's don't give anybody else access to this information as a criminal could have stolen your stereo and be able to use it so this code can only be gotten from the main dealers and as long as you have the owners documents.

This security system makes thieves think again about stealing car stereos due to the fact that they cant get the code so all modern cars have this security feature.
The way most people need this code is usually due to having the battery disconnected to have work done to the vehicle and then when you put the battery back on the stereo then asks for this code.

These codes are not common knowledge and you can only get them from the dealership so take you car and owners documents with you and they will then give you the code, they wont charge for this but make sure you take ID to prove you are the registered owner.

Once you have the code its best you write it down some where safe in case you ever need it in the future and its also handy to pass on to somebody buying your car should you come to sell it.

I know its a pain but at least this way its very un-likely that a thief would target your vehicle and take your stereo due to the fact they cant get the codes.

our screen went blank and we have no radio or any phone connection or rear view camera or any my touch controls. Is there any thing we could look for?

Check for a bad radio/entertainment fuse. Your owners manual will give fuse location and identification. Most of these systems are now controlled by an entertainment module. You can also try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting to see if it will come back online. If not the system will have to be scanned for codes to help isolate the problem. How Do I Get My Radio Out OF Safe Mode? Anyone?

The radio goes in safe mode when the battery gets disconnected, or if for some reason the radio lost power connection.

To get the radio out of safe mode you will need the anti theft code.
This is available with car documentation, in first page of the in car entertainment booklet, or on first page of the car booklet (not the car manual).

Once you have got the code, do the following:

  1. Hold down both the AM/FM and the SCAN button at the same time, until the display shows "1000".
  2. Use the buttons 1,2,3,4 to change each of the digits until you get displayed the same code as printed on documentation (ensure that it is the right one).
  3. On some radio (programmable models), the default code is "1111" or "1234".
  4. Press and hold the AM/FM and SCAN buttons again until the radio is starting.
  5. If you fail twice the code, the radio will lock up in safe mode, and you won't be able to enter the code again.
  6. If the radio is locked, or if the code is lost, the unlock can be done at the nearest car dealer, usually for a small fee, or for free.
