Tip & How-To about Ford F-350

Changing Powerstroke injectors

A key step most DIY'ers forget when changing the injectors is to remove the UVC (under valve cover) oil drain plugs. These plugs drain the excess oil from the oil passage so it doesn't leak into the cylinder and cause hydro lock (clyinders full of fluid) and damage pistons/rods. To do this you remove the valve covers and then the gasket as well as the injector harnesses. The 2 drain plugs are located directly underneath the 2 wiring harnesses (front and rear). This requires an allen wrench (4.5mm I believe) and do not torq when tightning). You must remove both to allow maximum oil drainage.

diagram for changing the oil

you probably won't need a diagram. If you know where the oil pan is. Under the car. There is the oil pan and it has a plug. Put an oil change container under it and remove the plug with a wrench. Let the oil drain out. Replace the plug. You should replace the oil filter too with each oil change. Then after replacing the plug and installing a new oil filter. Put in 4 quarts of oil into the engine by removing the oil cap on top of the valve covers. And your done. check the oil after running the car a while to see if it does not need more oil. Do NOT OVERFILL!! That can ruin the gaskets and an oil leak can occur. I hope this helps you. You can go to autozone .com if you need more info. Just click on the DIY and repair guide.

how do you change the oil in a 1984 monte carlo ss

First you have to be able to slide a pan under the engine to catch the oil, Then remove the drain plug. Let all the oil drsin out while you cjange the oil filter by unscrewing it counterclockwise. Put oil on the new filter seal and screw the new filter on as snug as you can by hand.. Put the oill pand plug back in and snug it down. Don't forget the gasket washer under the plug. Slide the pan of old oil out carefully and set it where you won't step in it. Open the hood and on one of the valve covers ia a cap about 3" in diameter. Remove the cap and look inside. If yo can see the rocker arms that is it. Put 4 quarts of new oil in it, then start it. Look underneath for any leaks. Turn the engine off and ck the oil level with the dipstick. If it is a quart low, add the fith quart. If on the full line. Add no more. Only run the engine long enough to fill the oil filter . It should only take 10 seconds. If this is a v8, it should need the fiftj quart. Put the valve cover cap back on , Put he dipsatick back in, Close the hood, and deny forgetting about the pan of oil as you step in it as you move back proud of your first oil change. Always run the engine again for 5 minutes to make sure no leaks appear. Good Luck.

how do i flush injectors on my 1991 honda accord?

Before performing and injector service which only a shop can perform pull the spark plug wires out of the holes. These engines are know to leak oil down the tube causing a short. If their dry check the plugs for cracks and proper gap. Replace if they have 60,000 miles or more. Also would be wise to replace the wires if their old. Pretty sure on these engines the valves are adjustable also. This is overlooked alot. This could cause poor fuel milage and wear out your catalytic converter sooner.
Now as far as the injector service all you can do is do a fuel sytem additive to the tank.
If the wires have oil on them they will need to be replace as will the plugs. You will also need a valve cover gasket set.
