Tip & How-To about Cars & Trucks

Asking for help on cars.

First tell the helper what country you reside.? or answers will be dead wrong!
Cars are totally different by country (laws and users demands for smaller engines, et cetra)
year car? and model (like 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee, USA)
if you have engine problems ? then state if engine is gas or diesel and size engine,
if trouble with transmission tell the helper if its manual (stick ) or automatic.
or A/T or M/T jargon works.
then tell full symptoms, or the job you are doing.(and why helps)
tell what the car does good and bad. (pretend the helper is blind, we are)
like this:
car starts and runs, ok, but does not shift correctly.
The engine does not crank over. 4.0L jeep.98 a/t
what it does good and bad, matters, as does, do all electrics work.?
head lights , radio, work? correctly.?
the engine stalls, is 3second or in 3 miles.. is a big help.
good luck!

Is the Isuzu 4JB1-TC supported by EOBD or EOBD2

wow no year, are you kidding? not even a name of car, model....
OBD , is by country. why not post your country, this is a USA forum. btw.... so......?????
and by years.
in USA (we invented it ) by US federal mandate.
in 1996 on gas engines, it was upgraded to OBD2 tech.
many countries copied our design and added to it.! or less...
like the European, EOBD or JOBD in JAPAN
and some did this in 2001, or 2006 or 2010 in china.
so the country , year and engine are the factors here, (laws really)
Smog laws dictate this...
and on turbo diesel , they are totally different laws. and dates.

the FSM (factory service manual for your car and country)
answers this question on page 1 of the PCM controls chapter....
read that yet?
on our cars the under hood label stated. OBD2 compliance.
but other countries do no use our labels, ever.!
so again, what country and what year, what car, what truck.
tell more get more.......

My clock light is no shining, the rest of the panel is fine.

you have 2 choices
1; SEE FUSE LAbled, clock
2: if no such label buy and read the factory service manual?
3: or like we do , use a volt meter on all fuses, 1 by one keyon. 12v on both sides is good, (Brainless but 100% effective)! need a video?
have it. with ASE school.
my guess is the clock backlight is dead. right>? backlighting
aka. park/dim lights.l
this can be a bad lamp in the clock, the clock actual fuse is hot all the times.
the backlight lamp is from the dash park dimmer controller.
so if all others dim and 1 dont, that means the actual lamp is bad.
so now you ask one more question. how to change out a lamp.
that is covered in step 2 above, read the manual. or RTM,
I dont post full manuals, yet.
i cant past the whole cluster out , sections here, sorry

if in usa, (not one post ever tells country, and sux big time for helpers)
is alldata.com. USA cars. covers this. read the cluster service sections or where ever your clock resides, (not stated)
as you know, most cars have radio clock, and is a totally differ, answer. to that. (unstated by you) cars world wide have different options for clocks and radios and sometimes 5 or more radios. +++
posting a photo would solve that.?
here is the official toyota book, and again this is USA site!!!

my car has VFD display and if dead, $1000 for new one
so your cheap 10cent lamp is really a blessing, of old school tech.

toyota d4d i have 1238 codes

what country>?' what year, car? we can not guess that.
the car , all cars have a book, and this book is called the FSM
for factory service manual. toyota made it and sells it.
the book has a section called diagnstic codes, DTC errors
it shows all codes , the tests it does, how it works and then tells
the mechanic what to do (more tests) to isolate true cause.
all cars made , same. answer. its in that book.
some countries use different diesel systems (EFI) like here in USA
totally differ and regulatoed by EPA law.
what your countries laws do , ive not a clue but matters big time
what country, is this direct injection>??????

is that really P1238
did you scan the PCM yet,? with a real scan tool
there can be 5 more DTC error there, all VALID .

now i google for you, yes, wild crazy idea. can land on wrong dtc

but with no county,
go to toy in your county and get the book, and win.
every time.

no volts to or from distributor

good the rare poster with a voltmeter, bravo !
22R or 3VZ engine. vast diffr.?????????
check fuses yet?
did you look at the schematics first, for the 91
at alldata.com or the real FSM.
did you crank for 5second, an see if the PCM shows, flash error codes
with key left on? this in fact can tell you what is wrong, eg. dead CMP.

no spark, right>? car is CARB or EFI? im sure EFI.
tell what pins are dead on DIZZY.?

btw, EFI cuts fuel with spark dead, so dont fiddle fuel until spark works.
all EFI Otto cycle gas engines.(in cars and trucks)
start all posts with symptoms, we can't help mid stride... no way.
eg: my car cranks but will start. and i found spark dead.?
ill pretend you said 22RE engine,
the transmission neutral switch kills spark dead. by design.
no 12v to coil or ignitor. box.
if ignitor box is dead, so will be the Dizzy.
also some version, kill the fuel pump if the VAF air flow meter swich
is open , cranking, so the pump will be dead, not cranked or running
the VAF, closes this switch at first crank.
only that the pump relay is and AND gate. it fails if no air flow or the start signal is dead. either.
i just looked at the 6cyl. it works same way.
do ask questions, have answers. can peel the onion.

my motto:
No engine size. (or transmission type A/T or M/T?, if that is in question)
NO HELP (or your joy)
No country , too , is a royal pain , all cars are different by country (laws)
