Tip & How-To about Cars & Trucks

Battery keeps dying for no reason:

Is your Battery good or bad?
Sometimes a battery seems ok then later it seems dead. sometimes it charges and then it won't take a charge. This keeps going on and doesn't really seem like the battery is bad. This is a common problem happening to everyone at times.
Could be a dead cell in the battery, try measuring each cell in the battery. If one cell is low it will seem like a dead battery. But the battery really needs to be replaced. The debris in the bottom of the cell is intermittently shorting the cell.

Hope this helps.

All circuits seem good but still won't charge battery

Sometimes new batteries are still bad, it sounds like the battery wont take a charge, go get your new battery tested and go from there.

car won't start, seems to have power, all lights working. when I turn the key nothing happens. this only happens sometimes

Could be a bad alternator.. It may not be holding charge. Or your starter could have failed.

Though I've had the same problem and it was a dead battery in my vehicle. Had enough power, but to keep the car on..

wont start sometimes wont hold charge sometimes, is that batt or starter? what is extra wire to battery for

If the battery won't hold a charge sometimes, it could have a dead cell. You would take the battery out and have it tested or drive the truck to a shop for the test.
The extra wire may be a feed for one of the fuse boxes if it is on the positive cable.

car wont start, seems like battery went dead

If the car doesn't start with a jump you might have a bad alternator. The alternator supplies voltage to the car once the engine is running. If the battery is dead, and the alternator isn't putting out sufficient voltage, the engine cannot run. Then again sometimes a car with an extremely dead or internally shorted battery WON'T start with a jump. Replace the battery and try again.

Battery seemed to be dead so I had the charging system tested and seemed ok replaced the battery. I tried to start it this morning and it's dead again.

if the charging system is good and you replaced the battery and it still goes dead then you have something on the car that is causing a draw on the system that needs to checked out.it could be something that is not turn off even a problem with one of the on board computers not powering down.this is providing the starter is not the problem.sometimes a bad starter will do nothing no noise or clicking sound because it has a bad spot in it or the starter solenoid system has a problem.
