Tip & How-To about Cars & Trucks

No Brake Lights? Check This:

Brake light checkout:
If you have no brake lights and/or brake lights are always on even when key is off:
Check out the brake light switch under the dash on the brake pedal arm.
You can adjust it or replace it, or Usually, the problem is a rubber stop that falls out and the switch end goes into the hole and never actuates. Since the switch operates in reverse, that indicates to the computer that the brakes are on.
Look around the brake switch area, and check whether the rubber plug is missing or if the switch can be adjusted, or needs to be replaced..
Hope this helps.

front headlights but no lights on the rear or indicators or brake lights 2004 renault traffic van

try to go step by step to solve the problem.First check if any fuse for lights is blown,if so replace it with new one on same capacity. Second check the rear bulbs if are okey or not renew accordingly. For brake lights even more proceed on brake lights switch which is always located under the dashboard on driver's side above the brakes pedal. even more check for the rear lights unit if are well the connectors connected .

my brake lights are staying on and drained my battery!!!! could it be a fuse??

the fact that you have lights means your fuse is good-lights all the time means your brake switch (located above the brake petal) is hung up or stuck. You need to get down low enough to see it, under the dash and immediately above the brake petal-as you push the petal with your hand, you will see it attached to the brake linkage-for some reason, it is always 'closed' which causes the lights to stay on, even with the key off (safety reasons, this circuit is always hot). you should be able to 'unstick' it by manipulating it, or you can spray a light coating of wd40 on the assembly to sree it up. Worst case, you will need to replace it, the usually run under $20.

Sounds to me like the brake light switch is shorted and needs to be replaced. The brake light switch should be under the knee bolster above the brake pedal. Go to your nearest dealer and get a brake light switch and swap it out.
