Tip & How-To about Cars & Trucks

When purchasing a vehicle from an individual

When purchasing a vehicle, as example, make an appointment for 30 min. from now but show up in about 5 min.  If the guy is trying to hide something, he'll be out there already, airing up a tire, jump starting it, adding fluids, etc.  He may want to warm it up, as some of these engines make terrible noises until they warm up.  Don't give him a chance to correct/ hide problems before you get there.

I have recently purchased a 2012 yukon with a 5.3 engine (495 Miles). It feels like the throttle has about a 1/2-1" movement in the accellerator pedal before the engine responds. I have an appointment

Even though you are pushing a pedal with your foot. most of these vehicles are all electronic. In other words you are not pushing or moving a cable like in an older vehicle. It more than likely has sensor on the pedal, which in turns sends a signal to the throttle body. I have an 04 Suburban that feels much like you described & it is all electronic.

Should You use Straight 40 weight oil instead of 10w 30 ? or is this guy just hididng a problem ?

i wouldnt use straight 40 weight, sounds like hes hiding a rod knocing problem from you also... if you put straight 40 weight in your vehicle, you better have a good battery charger to boost the cranking amps on cold mornings. hope this helps. you usually only use a heavy weight oil if your trying to get rid of something, and need to make the engine run quiet to get rid of it.

Vehicle won't restart after driving for a while

You said it's runs fine, but it just won't start after driving a while. If thermostat or temp sensor was bad you'd be overheating. It sounds like a vapor lock. Good luck

Trunk wont pull shut.

You have a pull down switch that activates the pull down motor for the trunk lid to close. The manufacture of this part supplies this to Ford & General Motors vehicles. You can go to a Cadillac dealership & purchase this part far cheaper than at Ford. I use to work at a GM dearlership & my neighboring Ford dealer would order this part from me for the cost of mine where less than the cost from Ford. Figure those guys out at Ford. No wonder they don't need a goverment bailout
