Today's tip is about battery terminals & how to protect them.
I have seen many opinions on this subject, the one i disagree with most seems to be popular among a few "experts" even on this site. So here is my 2 cents on the subject...

Is it a good idea to put Vaseline on battery terminal posts to prevent corrosion? - Not really, & this is why...

Under hood temperatures will cause the petroleum jelly to liquify, and run down between the cable and the terminal - effectively creating an insulating barrier.

I've cleaned up several of these well-intentioned mistakes that were discovered when a car would not start.

There is a battery terminal spray coating specifically formulated for the job, and available for a couple of bucks at the auto parts retail stores like Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc....That is the correct product to use.

if the battery harness for the terminals is corroded with lime calcium and rust and is getting a bad connection after trying to start the car a bunch of times could it send the car into protect

low volts wont harm the starting system
means the alternator is working well
maybe the battery is old

more attention to regular servicing
and checking under the bonnet required

try cleaning the battery terminals
if the connection are that crusty
baking soda and hot water
or replace the battery cable connections with new brass ones

Battery & alternator both good, but wont start without jump off, atleast once a day.

Your battery will not be "good" if you can jump start the car from another power source. If it is a 2014 model it will be the original battery.

Unless you have tested the cold cranking amps the battery is producing you cannot say if it will turn the starter motor or not. A good battery would kick the starter motor over. If you can jump start the car by connecting another power source to the battery terminals it will not be a wiring issue either.

If it's a 2014 it should still be covered by new car warranty (but not if the problem is just a failed battery which is subject to the applicable battery warranty)./

2000 isuzu trooper no start with slow crank loose 4 volts at starter

automatic or stick>?
no engine size stated. gas or diesel.
slow crank, 250 -300 rpm is normal.
so did you AAA tow truck style , jumper cable crank that car off a running donor car yet>?
just that act (test) speaks volume for cause.

what does loose 4v mean...??
10-11v is normal voltage at starter. cranked.
4 v at the solenoid can not even begin to close it,
or did you mean the 12vdc is 4v lower that 12vd. which is 8v.
perplexing. (3 cheers 1st poster here with voltmeter, im am truly shocked,(no pun) honest reply.......!!

A fuses blown. (DEAD CRANKS)
wrong sized battery in car, (tiny)
LAST DRIVE? the charge system died, and now battery is weak. fix charging system.
left head lights on, cure , charge battery.

battery terminals rusty !( yes they have 4 ends they can rust or get loose) 500 amps here so must be clean and tight.(bat terms)

jumper cables jump starts car ok?, yes, then battery dead.
battery bad, battery only discharged ?
jumper cables don't crank fast, then hot wire the starter. (big wire to tiny)
more testing....
with known good charged battery (12.6vdc rested)
i hot wire the starter solenoid.
i monitor the voltage at starter actual.
with a volt meter.
most cars do 11v, in warm summer.
if much less, say below 10v the starter will be slow. so i monitor battery terminals volts.
and if ok, there, the cables are bad. (voltage drop on cables is that, yes, cables do fail.)
or the starter is partially shorted. or engine seizing....hand turn engine crankpulley and feel it.? feel normal, ? or cant move it...?

if i suspect a bad starter i use my ammeter.
the starter current will be about 200 amps .
no engine stated so.....i guess....
if it goes to like 600+, the starter is shorted.
I have an amp clamp amp meter, that allows me to see and find the hard cases...

Doors lock and unlock while driving and power is taken away.Lights on dash jump back and forth between gears.Occurs more on bumpy road.Been a week and dealer still unable to diagnose cause

I looks like you have been having a lot of electrical problems with your Hummer. Based on that, I would say that there is a bad/loose ground somewhere. From your description of the problem, it is most likely a bad battery cable.

I suggest you look under the hood and check the battery terminals and cables. I have seen swollen battery cables that are full of corrosion. Especially on side-terminal batteries. If the cable is swollen near the battery terminal, use a razor knife and split the insulation at the point of the swelling and you will see green and/or white corrosion in that area. Replace the cable, because it can cause other problems in the future - no start, no lights, stalling. etc. Also, any loose or corroded wire connections on the inner-fenders and firewall could be in issue.

If everything looks good under the hood, the next thing to check is your ignition switch. I once had a 1995 Pontiac Transport that would stall at red lights/stop signs. After following the above suggestions, I removed the ignition switch and it fell apart in my hand! It was also badly burned inside. After replacing it, the problem was solved.

I have never worked on a Hummer, but since it was a GM product, it is most likely mounted to the steering column , under the dash. You will most likely have to remove 2 bolts that hold the steering column up, and lower the column for access.

Engine stalls while driving!

as your description is a little uncertain that is why the answer are a little mixed
however the basis of the description indicates a battery problem , probably loose/dirty battery terminals or loose /dirty ground wire to the engine
check the ground wire condition
