Whenever I fill up my gas tank on my 2004 Honda Accord, a few days later the "check engine" light comes on. It stays on for a day or two, then goes off. It never comes on again until the next time I fill up the car. However, the next time I fill up the tank the whole pattern repeats. I called the dealer and they thought the problem was due to a loose gas cap. I was suspicious about that because I was sure I was tightening the gas cap as much as I have ever tightened it. However, I nevertheless did what they said and took off the gas cap, then replaced it again. Sure enough, a few days later the check engine light went off, so I thought they had diagnosed the problem correctly. However, it did not make sense that it would come on again a few days after every fill up. Surely I was tightening it properly on at least some occassions!!! I had a scan of the check engine light run at Autozone, and they said that the check engine code was indicative of a defective oxygen sensor. Can anybody think of any reason why a defective oxygen sensor would result in symptoms like the ones I have described, with the check engine light coming on and going off with a pattern that seems tied to the amount of gas in the tank???
The P0141 code points to the O2 sensor heater circuit. It could be that there is a short in the wiring to the O2 sensor or it could be that the O2 sensor heating element itself is bad. The code is for O2 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2. Bank 1 means its the O2 sensor connected to the exhaust pipe that runs to cylinder #1. Sensor 2 means that it is likely the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter on the same exhaust pipe.

So my car battery died when I was on vacation. Then my radio said code on the screen. I drive a 2004 honda accord. i guessed a few times then instead of reading CODE it now says ERROR E, I was looking through my owners manual and found my serial # and radio code but I cannot enter it in bc the radio says error e...Can anyone help?
You only get like 10 tries this means you made to many attempts trying to put the wrong code in. Disconnect the battery cable and then try putting the code in the radio again.

2004 honda accord: (48,000 miles)
Air Conditioner stopped working all of sudden. When I turn the NOB to start the airflow, nothing happens. Also, when I press the control button for defrost, air flow (leg, up, both) etc, light doesn't come on. Is this an air conditoner problem or an electronic problem? How much to fix such an issue. Hope there's nothing wrong with the actual air conditioner.. but some minor problem.
Sorry for the delayed response. For future reference, the blower motor resistor in an 04' Honda Accord is located under the glove box and a little to the left if you are facing it (the glove box). You just need to pull out the plastic panel (yes, you can just pull it out by hand, no tools needed for that). It should be right on the fire wall with a plug going into it. If you reach in there and pull the plug (it has a little notch so it clips into the resistor more securely; make sure you push the clip in) it should have 4 flat prongs on it that go into the resistor. The resistor itself will have 2 phillips head screws that are holding it into the fire wall. Unscrew them and you have the resistor. If you can unscrew both screws before unplugging, it will be easier to see how it unplugs. I know this sounds complicated but once you get in there you will notice it's fairly easy to change out.

My mother just gave me her 2004 Honda Accord 6-cylinder sedan. Unfortunately, the owners manual is missing and I need a replacement copy. Is there a version somewhere that I can download? Or should I just go out and buy the Haynes manual?

what does the TCS Off button do?
TCS stands for Traction Control System.
The traction control system works in conjunction with your Antilock Brake System (ABS) and your Engine Control Module (ECM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Unit (ECU) (Note that ECM, ECU, and PCM all mean the computer that controls your engine, depending on make.)
Anyway, the traction control system can apply one or more of the brakes and control engine RPM in the event that a wheel slip has been detected by the traction control system.
Pushing the TCS button on most models will light a lamp in the instrument cluster that usually says "Trac Off" Pressing it a second time will turn this light back off.
When the "Trac Off" light is illuminated, the Traction Control System is disabled and will not work in the event of a wheel slip.
Also note that when the Traction Control System is working and a wheel slip is detected, The Traction Control Module will usually illuminate a light that says "Trac" as it is taking control of your brakes and engine. It can feel really strange when this occurs and some people think that their transmission is slipping or that their engine has a misfire problem.
The chances are that if it occurred on wet, slippery pavement, the Traction Control System may have just saved your life.
If this is happening on dry pavement and normal driving conditions (starting, stopping, or turning), there may be a problem with the system. "False Traction Control" can happen just like a bad wheel sensor causing "False Antilock Mode".
Also check your Owners Manual for more specific information pertaining to your particular vehicle.

tailgate operation completely failed today for the first time.unable to open and close tailgate electrically or unlock tailgate, having to use the emergency release inside boot to unlock.any ideas?
Maybe a little late here but i have a fix for this after turning down my dealers generous offer of a 750gbp fix i did some extensive googling and found this.... With your ignition on open the tailgate using the catch inside then turn off ignition and disconnect the battery for a minute. Reconect the battery and turn on ignition and let the warning lights go through their cycle. With the ignition still on shut the tailgate and hey Presto should be as good as new.

the yellow triangle with an exclamation point is lit up - what does this mean?
The Vehicle Stability Assist system is turned off. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) is an electronic stability control system that works in conjunction with the Pilot's drive-by-wire throttle and its 4-channel ABS systems to enhance controllability while the vehicle is accelerating, braking, cornering or when the driver makes a sudden maneuver. VSA functions by applying brake force to one or more wheels independently while also managing the throttle, ignition and fuel systems to help the vehicle maintain the driver's intended path of travel.
You need to find the VSA button on the dash and push it, this will activat the VSA and turn off the yellow light.

radio unlock code for 2004 honda accord
Your radio unlock code is specific to your radio. If the code isn't written on your owners manual you will have to make a trip to the dealer as they are the only ones that can look up your unlock code. They may retrieve your code for free as a courtesy or they may charge you a (hopefully) small fee. It should only take a few moments and all they should need is your vehicles VIN number.

vsa light and engine light come on. car looses power and only drives at 40 miles an hoour. ie accellerator unresponsive. brought to garage several times and problem keeps recurring. first time they replaced accelerator sensor. same problem two weeks later. then they replaced ecg valve. two weeks later same problem. then they replaced abs but problem back again. 04 accord with only 75k miles on clock. please help.
Take your Honda to a real mechanic instead of a parts changer and have diagnostic codes read.
