How to fix a head gasket by myself
Well, you sort of can.You should probably get a book on how to do it. I was just looking for a "Chilton's" , "Motors" , " Edmonds" ," Haynes", or some such manual that could walk you through the steps, but lo and behold, the library had books only for American and Japanese cars, no European cars at all!You will be needing a large pad of paper to write down what you take off of where, so you don't get mixed up trying to put pieces back on.You will be needing a lot of tools, as there are many tools required for the job. Last but not least, if you try to do this without asking a whole lot of mechanics, you may miss essential knowledge and steps to cause to engine not to run when you are finished. What I mean is, even the repair manuals don't tell you everything.Let's go one more step.About 10 years ago, new technologies developed a liquid that you could put into your radiator to stop a leaking head gaskets, permanently.I only tried it once, and it did not work for me, but I have talked to other mechanics who say it worked for them. Th bottles of stuff are called " Head Gasket Sealer" and cost from $10 to $ 80 a bottle. I understand the higher the cost, the better the results. You might consider trying a bottle of this before you tackle the head gasket yourself.Be Blessed.
