OK, There should not be a "Tan" wire there. It is probably the "Red" or "Orange" wire that has faded real bad and just looks tan. It goes on the same post as the large black battery cable. It should be a 10 gauge wire. The other end of that wire goes to the "BAT" terminal on the alternator. (in case you want to check and make sure) The smaller black wires should be ground wires, They will attach to the transmission housing. Usually, there is a special bolt with a stud made on the end of it and a nut that secures the wires. As you said, the purple wire goes to the small post on the starter solenoid.

If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
- The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
- Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core.
Heater Core
- Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
- Remove the heater coolant hoses.
- Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
- Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
- Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
- To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

for the speedo mostly it is the sensor ( check the wire first , clean it and install it back if not then change it ) in the transmission and for the heater I would check the fuse first

you could put the pickup on a cylinder pressure test and see if you have a bad valve causing the engine to pop.
you could have a bad wire or spark plug.
the timming chain could of went off a cog on the timming sprokets causing to pop.

Yes a freeze plug could be leaking, or it could be the head gasket higher up.And the engine would run hot if the radiator is low on coolant.You may have to use a lift to get under and see the source of the leak.
How do i change the fuel filter in my 1985 buick le sabre
It's usually on the driver's side under the rear door or close by there. Just take off the lock nut on one end of the filter and usually there's a quick-coupler type connection on the other end. Have a big rag ready to hold there when you loosen it so you don't get gas all over you.
