Change rear brakes on 1993 mercury tracer

This is usually one of two things. Either the hubs/studs have become rusted to the inside of the drum, or the shoes have made a circle bigger than the inside edge of the drum. If the drum is loose but will just not pull off, the shoes are in the way and you need to adjust them down a bit. Look for a small adjusting slot near the bleeder nipple. If the drum is not loose then you have the rusted solid situation; I have seen folks repeatedly squirt WD40 or some non flammable substitute around the stud holes, apply some heat and ping with a hammer until it loosens. Myself I like to put a big old drum puller on it, tighten it until I warp the drums and then buy new ones!

How do I remove the cigarette lighter in my Tracer. It is really hard to reach the back of it.

I don't know what year it is. But this video from youtube may give you an idea of how to do yours. You can buy electrical tape & a cheap screwdriver & needle nose pliers at Walmart. Wrap the screwdriver tip so you don't scratch your plastic like this guy did in the video. Use the needle nose to unscrew the nut, if there is one. The replacement lighters show just a Blade type; 1-prong male terminal. Have you tried just prying it out near the rim of the lighter? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmwXCBo2M9k&list=TL22RiG_zP4oVIBeL9_yKdcKytU23ZZ3o0

2000 mercury tracer battery light staying on with new altenator ..why?

The battery is most likely controlled by the PCM computer, so you need to perform a fault code test to see if any faults are present in the charging system. If this is a cheap rebuilt you also may just have a defective one, I went through 4 to get a good one from Autozone once, never again I guy OEM parts only now.

1996 mercury tracer 1.9 no fire no fuel

Check your ground to the frame, it is an easy thing to check. Possible bad fusable link. If the main fuse burns out, nothing will work, not the fuel pump and not the ignition system.

I have a 89 mercury tracer.. the fuel injectors were bad, but when i replaced fuel injectors, car starts but then dies. will not stay idle.

I do not know what you did or did not do. Did you possibly get the wiring mixed up? Did you have new seals and lubricate them as you seated them? Are they the correct injectors. It could also be a fuel pressure problem. Why did you replace the injectors? Did the car run okay before?

1993 Mercury Tracer overheating after running 15 miles or so

possibly air trapped on engine side of thermostat-possibly. HOW TO BLEED: loosen coolant temp sensor. Start engine. As engine warms, slightly unscrew sensor to allow air to escape. Once a steady stream of coolant trickles out you're good. Let us know if this helps. Good luck.

How do you know if an injector is bad and how can you test it

There is a tester called a Noide light. This plugs into each injector wiring socket to see if the injector is getting a pulse. You can accomplish this same thing with a Voltmeter. Sometimes the auto parts store have loaners in Noide light kits. But this will only show you if power is going to the injector. You need to do an Ohmmeter for continuity on each injector. This will give you a fair idea if they are passing fuel. You will be able to tell if injectors are getting their pulse using the noide light.
