Starter is hanging up and over heating

pull the starter out and take it to autozone or advance auto and have them test it out,if it hangs when testing it then its the starter and you can get another 1(or could have a bent shaft in it not letting the head to slide back),if starter if ok then it might be in need of some shims to keep the clearance from the starter head to the flywheel,if that is all good and it still does it,then you will need to start checking the wires, ignition switch and lock key cylinder and rod.

Wiring diagram 89 yj no power to dash when key is

Autozone.com has free diagrams in the repair section. You will have to register but that is also free.
Do you still have headlights, interior lights, any thing have power inside? If so you may just have a dead ignition switch.

Is there a easy way to install a ignition switch

These generic instructions (with an Illustration from Ford) were the best I could find.Testing and replacing an ignition switch:An ignition switch supplies voltage to the ignition control module and/or the ignition coil. Often an ignition sytem thas two wires connected to the run terminal of the ignition switch. On is connected to the module. The other is connected to the primary resistor and coil. The start terminal of the switch is also wired to the module. You can check for voltage using either a 12-volt test light or a digital multimeter (dmm). To use a test light: * Turn the ignition key off and disconnect the wire connector at the module. * Disconnect the S terminal of the starter solenoid to prevent the engine from cranking when the ignition is in the run position. * Turn the key to the run position and probe the red wire connection to check for voltage. * Check for voltage at the battery terminal of the ignition coil using the test light. * Next, turn the key to the start position and check for voltage at the white wire connector at the module and the battery terminal of the ignition coil. If voltage is present, the switch and its circuit are okay.To do the same test using a DMM: * Turn the ignition switch to the off position and back-probe, with the meter's positive lead, the power feed wire at the module. * Connect the meter's negative to a good ground at the distributor base. * Turn the ignition to the run or start position as needed, and measure the voltage. * The reading should be at least 90% of battery voltage.Replacement - Ignition switchThe ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.NOTEOn column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible.(See illustration below)On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash. The ignition switch is operated by the key switch. Courtesy of Ford Motor Company. To replace the switch: * Remove the ignition switch wiring harness. * Unbolt it from its position. * Bolt the new switch into position. * Attach the witing harness.9_30_2011_3_48_13_pm.gif

Not getting fuel

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you remove the positive battery connector and let it sit for at least 5mins. before reconnecting it. This will reset the system and can get your vehicle back to it's normal operation.

If the problem still persists, I believe that you have a faulty fuel pump which will surely need replacement.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Could be an intermitant problem with the ignistion module. Auto Zone can test them for free.
Also if you have an alarm that disables the vehicle, that could be an issue as well. I have seen many, Many alarms go bad and cause this.

How does the vacume lines engage the four wheel

the line dont really engage the the transfer case, the engage the half shaft on the frount axel. the passenger side axel on the frount. theres a small box on the tube, inside is an actuator and a pikle fork that slides a ring onto the half shaft to engage the frount axel. this is done to improve turnig radus in 2 wd. the actuator goes out or gets stuck. you can check the lines and all that but on my jeep i removed the cover and used zip ties on the actuator rod to prevent it from disengaging. lost a little bit of turning but gained my 4wd back. for free. there are kits that replace this vacume system with a cable system but there expensive. just remeber jeep can stand for two things. Just Empty Every Poket or Just Enough Essental Parts. good luck and good wheeling

TRANSMISSION JUMPS OUT OF REVERSE

if you have lifted the jeep, there may not be enough room for the the gear shift to fully engage reverse. mine did this when i added a four inch lift. the simplest and cheepest soultion is to cut away about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch out of the sheet metal behind the gear shift in the reverse position. i didnt even have to remove enough to create a hole that the boot wouldnt cover.
