i have a escort van 1.8 d i try to install a clutch ratchet but i cany get my head around it, can you please help me thanks
Hi
If its the self adjusting pawl and ratchet on the pedal you're on about then its a nightmare, and your life will be so much easier if you actually remove the pedal assembly, fit the pawl and ratchet to it, and then refit the pedal assembly.
I think there are about 4 or 5 bolts if I'm not mistaken, a couple or three inside the car and a couple or three under the bonnet on the bulk head.
Once you've got the pedals off all will become clear.
Very best regards
Geordie

My 1996 Escort Wagon with 116K miles and 1.9L, 5 Spd was running fine one day then the next it started bucking and idling rough. Hooked up my code scanner and retrieved a P0304 trouble code, "# 4 Cylinder Misfire". Replaced plugs and coil pack, wires were replaced a short time ago, no improvement. Obtained a compression tester and checked cylinders #1 - 160 psi, #2 - 150 psi, #3 - 157 psi, #4 - 0 psi, specifications called for 170 - 207 psi. Injected oil into cylinder #4 and ran test again, still "0". Checked radiator for combustion residue or smell and found no traces. Removed valve cover to explore claims of sticking valves due to carbon buildup. Area around rocker assembly on top of head looked like new, I use synthetic oil. When cranking engine all valves operated freely. Question arose about blown head gasket but, could it be that severe as not to show some residual pressure during compression test, I got "0" as mentioned above? My last resort is to consider removing oil pan to view piston from below for any possible cracks or holes in piston which would account for massive compression loss, confirm.
I've worked on cars for a long time, but this one's got me confused, any help you can provide would be appreciated.
Timing belt slipped around cam pulley. Take off your timing belt cover and check the position. This would explain misfiring and compression loss. Stretched belt or missing cogs in belt likely culprit.

Hi, The reason i wish to bypass the immobilisers is because when i took it into Ford they have quoted £570.00 just to replace it plus the cost of re chipping the keys
Most aftermarket alarm companies make a bypass module for the immobilizer. Check with your local car audio/alarm retailer

how can I bypass an immobilizer on Ford Escort td 1998
Assume you have the PATS system with the transponder pellet in the black key? If yes, I have researched this thoroughly for one of my cars, and there is no easy bypass. Do you have at least one factory key that works? If yes, I have found a way to bypass the ignition switch so that you can use any hardware store key to operate the car. I took my one factory key and put in permanently into the tranceiver. Now I just use plain $2 keys to run the car. Will this work for you or what exactly is the issue you are dealing with?
