Hi there,

This response contains troubleshooting procedures designed to locate the cause of an overnight power drain resulting in a dead battery, It assumes the charging system is working.

The first (and easiest) test I run is on the battery.

When you are done using it for the evening, pull the Negative battery cable.

In the morning, re-connect it. If it's dead again, the battery need replacement. This does not necessarily mean you found the problem.

If it starts, the battery is ok. It's time to look for the power drain.

With the ignition off, ensure the systems that should be off actually are off. For example: does the radio still come on? Wipers? Etc.?

In the same vein, has anything new been installed lately?

The next test is a lot more tedious. You will need a test light, needle nose pliers (to pull fuses) and the proper tools to remove the negative battery terminal (again).

  • Ignition off
  • Remove the cable from the Negative battery terminal
  • Hook one end of your test light to the Negative battery post
  • Attach the other end to the cable you just removed
  • Again, double check connections to recent installations (radio, GPS, etc)
  • If it lights up very faintly, this is likely the normal drain of the clock. The brighter the light, the bigger the drain.
  • Find your fuse box
  • While keeping an eye on the test light, pull the fuses one by one. Replace the one just pulled before going to the next.
  • When the light goes out (or dims), you will have narrowed the the problem to a specific system. Check the legend on the fuse box for the offending fuse.
At this point there are too many 'What if's'. Which system has the drain will determine the next steps to be taken.

This procedure will allow you to focus in on the problem area. Let me know what you find out.

Hope this helps

Mike

2001 Ford Focus shift button stuck in park

I can't get my automatic FOCUS out of park. Shift button won't budge. Brake lights work. I've read that there is an override hole (stick in a key or screwdriver) to get it going. Where is this?

it's under a dime size cover on your console near the shifter. But, your brake/shift interlock solenoid is not working. either a fuse or the solenoid is bad. see owner manual for lcoation of over ride.

Answer

To replace the clutch master, you must remove the under hood fuse box and air filter housing assm, then remove the hydraulic line that goes into the inlet port of the clutch master, then inside the car, remove the hush panel/knee bolster panel from under the steering column, and loosen the boilts that retain the brake pedal to the firewall, then remove the two 10mm bolts that secure the clutch master to the brake pedal assm. Reverse procedure ti install, then fill the brake master cylinder with clean fluid, loosen the bleeder screw at the top of the trans, and bleed the clutch as you would the regular brake system, but never pump the pedal, tighten screw, with foot off of clutch pedal open screw and press pedal to floor, then tighten screw before you release pedal, then release pedal loosen screw, etc. until no more air comes out, it may take quite a few times to fully bleed the system.

replacing rear brake pads on a ford focus

I have trouble pushing the piston back so i can fit the new pads

How to Change the Rear Brake Pads on a Ford Focus Brake pads are an important part of your Ford Focus's braking system. They are the replaceable friction pads that pinch the brake disc when you step on the brake pedal. You should replace the brake pads before they wear beyond a quarter inch or risk damaging your Focus's brake discs. Remove the old Brake Pads 1)Park your car on a level surface. If you have a stick shift car, make sure the car is in gear. Place blocks in front of the front tires so the car does not move while you are working on it. 2)Raise the rear end of your Focus with your car jack. Remove the rear tire or wheel assembly. 3)Disconnect the parking brake cable from the brake caliper. The cable is usually held in place with a retaining clip. You can use pliers to remove the clip and disconnect the cable. 4)Attach the brake hose clamp to the brake hose. Loosen the brake hose connection to the caliper. Don't remove the hose. 5)Use the socket wrench to remove the caliper bolts and remove the caliper from the disc rotor. If the bolts are tight, use the penetrating oil to loosen them. Use a small bungee cord or wire hanger to hang the caliper in the wheel well. Don't let the caliper hang from the brake hose. 6)Remove the brake padsmag-glass_10x10.gif from the caliper. read the next commenty for more help and keep me updated for more help further. thanks. please do rate the solution if helped.

there isnt marks!the cam pulleys have do nothing with timing!remove the valve cover and see in the other end of the camshafts and find two eccentric cuts!turn the crankshaft to the top dead point on the cylinder 1 the two cuts must be in the same line on the upper or lower side.you need aspecial tool to lock the camshafts and another to lock the crankshaft!this is the timing procedure!now you can change anything you want!note!the cam pulleys are conejointed to the camshafts!no marks no pins no safe pins etc.isnt difficult but complicated simple!

how do you adjust the clutch on a 2000 ford focus

how do you adjust the clutch on a 2000 ford focus zx3? does it have a slave cylinder?.... i pushed in the clutch to downshift and clutch stayed down when i let it go. i pulled it back with my hand and pumped it which it works now but its a little harder to push it in. have any solutions

The only adjustment is for the pedal itself. There is a master cylinder at the top of the pedal that makes the pressure which travels thru the metal line to a rubber hose to a metal line which goes to the slave cylinder which is what actually pushes the clutch rod in the transmission. Sounds to me like your problem is in the Master cylinder part. It is like the brake master cylinder, there is a rod with rubber cups on it, and it sounds like the edges of the cup folded over backwards and hung up inside the cylinder, when you forced the pedal back up they folded back the right way, and now they are **** up a little making them not want to push as easy. This problem will happen again, so You better start pricing a new clutch master cylinder. From what I saw while researching this It looks like you can buy the master and slave cylinder as a set. If any pieces of the master cylinder rubber cups came off during this they may work their way thru the system to the slave cylinder and cause problems there as well. The reason behind thinking its the master and not the slave is, if it were the slave that hung up the pedal would have come back up since it has a spring on it.

I was driving my Ford Focus ZX5 2002 and noticed

I was driving my Ford Focus ZX5 2002 and noticed little white smoke coming out from hood and a burning smell from inside. is it a serious problem ? what can i do ?

Answer

Stop and wait for the car to cool down. You can open the bonnet to help the cooling process and to locate where the smoke is coming from.
First thing to check is the coolant level. If you've lost coolant, engine is overheating. Top up before you start driving again.
Second thing would be the head gasket. If this is blown, you will be able to drive small distances but will have to take it to get it replaced soon.

Hello bback.
If your wipers are working the problem is not the fuse as it is powered by the same fuse as the wipers.
It is fuse #F56 20AMP in the central junction box.
Usually the problem is a bad washer pump.
If you require further advise on this, ask me here, be glad to help.
