Does the 1997 Nissan Maxima have a shift lock button? I've already tried putting it in neutral with only the battery on and that doesn't work (to get it unstuck from Park)
Hi Annie,
Its located close to where the shift is, it looks like akey hole you can use your key and push down in the hole then you willbe able to move shift. Good Luck

I need to remove the inside panel of my driver side front door to get at the power window mechanism. The only obvious place to start is two screws at the top front of the panel (covered by black plastic caps). But removing those only loosens a bit of the front. What steps do I have to take to remove enough of the panel to have access to the window mechanisms?
I also would like to remove the passenger side rear door panel for a similar problem.
Thanks
This is out of my haynes manual
1 disconnect negative battery cable
2 on manual window equipped modesl remove the window crank using a hooked tool to remove the retainer clip.
3 on power window equipped models pry out the armrest switch control plate and disconnect the electrical connections
4 detach the armrest pull handle retaining screw then remove the inside door handle trim bezel
5 insert a wide putty knife, a thin screwdriver or a special trim panel removal tool between the trim panel and the head of the retaining clip to disengage the door panel retaining clips.then remove the remaining door panel retaining screws at the lower edge of the door panel.
6 once all of the clips are screws are disengage detach the trim panel disconnect any electrical connectors and remoe the trim panel from the vehicle by gently pulling it up and out.
7 for access to the inner door remove the door panel support bracket then peel back the watershield taking care not to tear it. it install the trim panel first press the watershield back into place. if necessary add more sealant to hold it in place.
8 installation is the reverse of removal

transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd then starts slipping. just bought car and checked fluid level, it was filled halfway up dipstick, oh no! drained fluid and filledto correct level still no change in symtoms. vacuum line leading from tranny disconnected cant find where this line goes. could this be the problem? where does it go? consulted chilton book and it is next to usless! please offer a little insight if possible. this is my 1st nissan and am getting a crash course in repair. my email adress is [email protected]
I suggest this is the Vechicle Revolution Sensor is causing the problem.
Run Diagnostic on the Transmission and review error codes.
An error (1) Code would confirm this.
If no error code exists then the problem is the band needs tightening. The gear to slip is always 2nd gear in this vechicle first then other latter as the problem becomes worse. There is only one band in the transmission and it is fairly simply procedure to complete but you need 1-10nm Torque wrench and to remove the valve body to get access. Don't attempt if you don't have good mechanical skill or have exp. on motorbike or other auto transmissions.

I have a 1990 Nissan Maxima and the trunk release switch does not work from inside the car. Can this be fixed and how.
Actually, this car has security system that prevent the trunk opened without using the master key. I often use this to lock my trunk. Just slid up the tiny lever upward to allow the trunk open from inside. the lever is on the back trunk (in the center, behind the Tail light) where the trunk door hook up with the lock system.
Cheers..

I disconnected the battery on my 91 Nissan Maxima and when I reconnected, the starter won't turn or engage, except when I hotwire it. I checked fuses and cleaned connections, but nothing happens. The starter relay (Is it in a fuse box under the hood?)on my 91 Nissan Maxima must be labeled by a different name. Is it "Engine Cont"?
put key in trunk and pop it try this it may work

my car overheats and blows steam out of the coolant reservoir
Check your radiator pressure cap see if theres too much pressure in it. If not that which I think it is, your thermostat may be stuck closed.

My 1990 Maxima's sunroof will slide front to back, but will not tilt open and will not tilt up to close completely. Do you know if it can be pushed up manually, and if I continue to slide it open, will it stop working and I will be stuck with an open sunroof? Tilt button does not appear to be working when pressed, slide button does. Thanks for your help!!!
Is there a way to manually close the sunroof in the up position on a 98 Nissan Maxima?

Hey,
I have Nissan Maxima 1994 and I have problem with the Bose audio. When I turn on the radio the antenna is not going up, also I can not listen the back speakers working. Is there some fuse responsible for this problem, I already check the fusebox at the front and all the fuses seems alright. Or there is some other problem???
Tnks
Oli
there are actually amps located with the each rear speaker that are originally for the Bose speakers in the car.. its a little black box in the kit that holds the speakers in.. you can see them plainly from the trunk..
It is likely that these amps, or their fuses have shorted..
Check there..
