The most common cause is the coiled contact drum under the steering wheel develops a cracked circuit filament (this part is commonly referred to as the "clockspring"), and yes this is not an OBD2 car but the airbag is not part of that system anyway.

Fan clutch or water pump.

It could be a melted light switch due to poor contact causing high resistance and heat at the connector. A melted plug and terminals would require replacement of the switch and the "Pigtail" plug with new wires that need to be soldered in.

Mechanical problem,take your care to Autozone and have them scan it,they do it for free and only takes a few minutes,then they will tell you what is wrong.

I would be checking the engine mounts as the shudder is when the engine is bouncing around under load it it has a cable operated clutch, the problem could be that as the engine is allowed to move , it is affecting the operation of the pressure plate it may be true that the distributor may have a problem but in this case , not electrical distributor problems are limited ,to starting, missing, irregular timing but not what you describe
