It's been a while since I have reset the SI lights on an E30 but there is a way you can reset the lights on your own. Located near the intake manifold you will find the small round diagnostic connector. It is a little larger than a quarter in size and will have a group of female wire terminals inside. The shape reminds me of PAC-MAN. You can use a test light for the reset. Clamp the test light to ground and insert the probe into the inner most pin of the Pac-Man. (<-) Only leave this grounded for approximately 7 Seconds. If it doesn't reset the first time, you made need to do it twice. If it does not reset you can usually purchase the reset tool online for about $20.00.

Clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump relay, or bad fuel pump. Inspect and replace as nessassary

Have you checked the bulbs and the fuses? If not, start there.

Check your fuse and the fuel pump relay.

Usually it is a sticking throttle plate, vac leak, or a problem with the idle control valve.

Maybe something as simple as a fouled plug. Have you checked spark plugs? Wires? It's a process of elimination...

belts should be changed every 60,000 miles or 5 years max so it is due a belt anyway.
if the belt does come apart it will do serious damage to the valves , head and pistons.

i would change the water pump at the same time for peace of mind. especially as it will be exposed while doing the belt, and you do not know if the pump is seized/worn.

Did you done some timing on your ignition?
Sounds like the ignition got problem in firing order and timing sequence.
Check on that first, then we'll be glad to answer more problem to help you in that already classic model!

Check to see if your AC compressor is turning, If it is then you need to refil system with freon equivalent thru the low pressure port. The kit you get will only let you put it on the low presure line. You can pick the lit up at any auto supply store. just folow the instructions on the kit. If the compressor clutch is not engaging check AC relay

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Any check engine light?

I would think the water coming from the engine and trans could be a core plug. very cheep to buy but you may have to drop the trans to fit. As for the fuel pipe, always use the correct fuel pipe as it runs at a very high pressure, can be 50bar or a little more.

yes you can change the units. as far as lights being dim I can't help you there..for 25 bucks buy the book on this car because there are some unique electronic issues that arise and the book explains them.
