Did it run okay after the starter was changed? There are lots of ideas in the link, but really, you need a mobile auto-electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer to check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes and Communication issues between modules.

Are the batteries fresh in the key fob ? Has the fob gotten wet or been dropped in water ? Has liquid been spilled on window switches or shifter console ? Possible Body Control Module fault.
After market? A good one last about 5 years. Factory maybe 7 years (even factory installs are after market). Junk ones, 1 to 3 years. Pull it out and repair the wires as you go. Every car I see these in, I pull them out. The car works fine after that.
