Fan motors in cars fail commonly. They wear out the brushes and the motor stops or the fuse blows. The other issue with the mode selector may not have anything to do with the motor. The actuator on the mode selector can become stuck or broken and then the air delivery wont go to the right area. All these things should be visible under the dash or behind the glovebox.

Hi Jenny, Sorry to hear your distress! When the check engine light comes on it generates a fault code, this will assist in pointing a mechanic in the right direction of where the fault is! You cannot just reset the light and hope the fault disappears! The garage that did the work needs to find the reason the light is on and put the fault right since it is their responsibility to give the car back with no lights on the dash!

Call the dealer to see if there is a place where you have to remove a small piece of plastic and release the transmission, so you can push your car. (usually just push down with a screw driver) My Grand Prix 2001 had one right next to the shifter between the seats.. Remember, once you have the information, always block your back and front tires so it doesn't roll without you being prepared. Good Luck!

You need to have the mechanic that did the work reset the system. They have a code machine that will do the reset. If the light comes back after that, they need to do another diagnosis to find out what the fault code is.

You can remove the negative (black) battery cable and re-set your service engine light or got to your local auto parts store and they can re-set your codes with their code-reader - as far as rough running, maybe some debris was allowed into your fuel tank and needs to be dissolved with a fuel system cleaner like Chevron Techron

New thermostat could be bad. But it sounds like the cooling fan is not coming on. The thermo sensor that activates the fan might be bad when the engine over heated. It is usually in the cylinder head or the thermostat housing or the engine block. Pretty sure it is in the cylinder head but it is controled by the ECM. Hope this answers your question. Make sure you do not have a air blockage after changing your thermostat.

I believe it could be a faulty oxygen sensor or blocked air tubes. Check to make sure air pump is operating.Check green and black wires between pcm and pump relay. Check for 12v power between these two wires with key on check the wires for damage as this has been a problem area on these vehicles. Hope this helps.
