Question about Polaris ATV

1 Answer

My 94 400L will not run unless fuel is pured into the carb. I have had the carb on and off 10 times and am unable to find the issue. I have cleaned the tank and screen, fresh fuel, new battery and new spark plug. Once it is running, it will start up until about an hour has passed.

Check all gas lines for cracks and pin holes also take a good look at the fuel pump sounds like there is a leak somewhere allowing the fuel to siphon back to the tank

My arctic cat 4X4 with a Mikuni BST 31 carb suddenly lost power and fouled the plug.New plug makes it start instantly and it runs great for 10 sec then fouls plug.Diaphram is good. Bowl not leaking

Pull the carb off and rebuild it, it either has a failed fuel inlet valve or a sticking float or a plugged jet from dirt in the fuel. If you are careful you can do this clean out with no new gaskets, use carb spray and compressed air. You may need a new fuel inlet "Needle Valve and seat". If you do find allot of contaminates in the float bowl you will need to clean the fuel tank and lines to the carb.

Why won't my2012 suzuki king quad run but it idles

Carb needs cleaned. Once it gets cleaned or rebuilt always use non- Ethanol fuel. I have a 10 year old ATV and it has always had non-ethanol fuel and never has a problem. Use the same gas on your lawn mower,Weed Wacker, Rototiller and anything with a small motor. It will not gum up.

02 Kawasaki prairie fires but wont stay running. Please help.

You've got spark to get it to fire, but not enough air or fuel to keep it running. When you are starting the engine, your carburetor makes the fuel mixture richer, by reducing the amount of air in comparison to the amount of fuel it's sending to the engine (that's the "choke"). Then, when it's running the motor's vacuum rebalances the mixture to normal and that's when you conk out. Chances are it's a fuel delivery issue, without that choke the mixture goes too lean (not enough fuel).

You've probably been running standard gas with 10% ethanol. I have found that on older ATV's (like my 98 Honda), especially if the ATV sits for a month or two unused, ports in the carb clog with the residue from ethanol and it needs to be cleaned.

Unfortunately, you can't just spray something in the intake of the carb, you have to remove it and spray the cleaner into numerous ports in the carb and preferably blow them out with compressed air. If you're mechanically inclined, it's pretty easy, and costs almost nothing. However, ethanol also attacks rubber parts used in earlier carbs, possibly like yours, and that can mean replacing a couple parts, but rarely anything expensive.

Engine cuts out when put into reverse mostly when its just started. Run 10-15 min. & will go into reverse. Today start it & goes into reverse perfect. Why?

Sounds like a carb issue - especially since it works fine once warmed up. When was the last time you took off the carb and cleaned it?

Why won't it idle without choke?

Fuel supply problem somewhere. How is the float adjustment and the float valve? I'd guess the level adjustment is too low.

Fill it up with premium gas, change the plugs, and run some sea foam through it. It will blow smoke after you add the sea foam and then clear up. That helps keep the varnish out of the carb (and unstick the choke etc.) and the high test gas will make it a lot easier to start and keep the plugs from fouling out as often. Also change/clean the air filter. This will give you optimal conditions for fuel air mixture and combustion. If you still have problems, go from there.

Have a ploaris 400 2005 turns on runs great for bout 20 minutes then shuts down. wait bout 15 minutes will start and run again for a short time. What is the problem

most likely a fuel issue. has it been sitting up ? if so if its got a carb it prob gummed up, pour some seafoam into the gas tank with fresh gas and run it, try and keep it running with the throttle, it might clear some varnish out the carb if it not too bad, if tht dont work and it is a carb engine then the carb will have to be removed and cleaned. if it a FI engine then you got a bad full pump more than likely

I just bought a mud blaster 110cc quad for my son, why does it start then 2 min later stop even with feathering the throttle?

#1 sounds like a fuel delivery system issue. Make sure the fuel tank flows freely to the carb. (remove the fuel line from the carb--from the gas tank and turn on the petcock--gas should flow freely) The needle and seat may need to be cleaned or replaced, this controls the flow of gas into the float bowl of the carb.(remove the drain screw from the bottom of the carb (with everything properly assembled- petcock on)..gas should continually flow through the bottom of the carb --10-15 seconds of continual gas flow will make sure its flowing properly! Both of these sound like a solution to your problem.

Has this ATV been sitting for a while? actually sounds like a fuel delivery system issue. make sure you have gas freely flowing to the carb.. then have a professional clean and set the carb. You are actually waiting in the carb to fill with gas during this time... the needle and seat need cleaning or replacing
