Question about Polaris ATV
2004 sportsman 400 4x4 shifts hard going into second gear and will not upshift on inclines unless engine revs to nearly 6000 rpm drive clutch and drive belt were replaced and it did not help. The bike was serviced using polaris fluids always. With the pully cover off the engine (drive clutch and crankshaft) appear to move towards the back of the bike as the pullys move in and out. is this movement normal or is the entire problem caused by the motor mounts?
Polaris drives are variable speed. they only have 2 ranges plus reverse. it sounds like either the driven clutch is slipping or the trans is slipping. the gear cogs inside may not be locking in properly and the shifter rods may need adjustment.
