Already replaced spark plug, air filter, oil and filter, and cannot find fuel filter for 2006 Yamaha Grizzly 660. Grizzly is stalling and not starting it sounds like it is not getting fuel? Any ideas?

The only fuel filter on a Grizzly 660 is apart of the fuel petcock valve inside the fuel tank. You remove the tank & the 2 screws that hold the petcock in the bottom of the tank. The filter is a plastic mesh screen on the petcock that is only replaceable with a new approx. $50.00 petcock. You can clean it if not damaged. If your not getting fuel to the carb. & it comes out the fuel line from the petcock, Then the float valve in the carb. is stuck from sitting with old gas. Replace it with a new one. (Yam. OEM $25.00) Don't use Chinese aftermarket, You'll really have problems then.

SOURCE: Mower will not start. Replaced spark plug, air

the key word here is the sound, engine must have compression, put your hand over the carb and try to start, if it trys to **** your hand then you should have enough compression, if it doesnt then you probably have a broken valve- hope that helps

SOURCE: wont start

Make sure the gas valve is on. I had to replace the coil in mine because of a tiny crack in the coil. Also replaced the float valve in the carb. and all is good.

SOURCE: idles rough stalls out whengiving

I have two suggestions for you to try. First is to clean the spark arrestor in the muffler assembly. Second is to clean the carburetor and replace the diaphrams. When you do this you will buy a carburetor repair kit that has a lot of pieces, this is a standardized kit that services multiple designs, so you will have extra parts. While you are at it, this would be a good time to replace the fuel lines, in-tank fuel filter, and the primer bulb.

I hope this is going to help get you going again.

SOURCE: I have an 01 Yamaha Grizzly 600 that will not start has yellowish spark, is getting gas, and does want to start ?

yellow spark is insufficient power from the coil
could be a failing ignition module , bad coil or bad ground connection for the battery
if you are using the starter at the same time if testing rga spark that would indicate a failing battery so have it load tested

Hi Curtis:
Considering the age of the machine I'd be looking at basic maintenance first. Things like air filter, fuel filter, carb condition, spark plugs, oil and oil filter change. Then start thinking about valve condition and clearances.

How to know signs of a bad fuel pump in 2009 yamaha grizzly 350

Disconnect the fuel line at the fuel filter or carby, without starting the engine, turn the key to the on position. The pump should start , now watch to see if you have an even flow from the hose, if it looks like spluttering you may have a problem, also check the fuel filter.

Backfires when you try to rev up engine,

check fuel flow and check spark at spark plugs

According to an "ATV Rider" 2009 article, "When the Grizzly was introduced in 1998 as a 600cc machine, the top was blown right off the displacement wars of the time."
It was replaced in 2002 with Yamaha Grizzly 660, an even bigger engine derived from the well-established all-terrain vehicle (ATV) Yamaha Raptor 660R.
Grizzly's 660 cubic centimeter (cc), four-stroke, liquid-cooled single overhead camshaft, five-valve engine performs well in open country, but sometimes it causes serious problems for owners.
Before you call a Grizzly dealer, however, trying a few tricks in your garage can save you a lot of time and money.

Check the fuel level.
Locate the fuel meter indicator on top of the multifunction display.
If it does not work properly, open the fuel tank, and push the Yamaha 660 Grizzly side to side.
Ensure the fuel is not contaminated by water or rust.
If you have not driven your Grizzly 660 for a long time, drain the tank completely, and fill it with a fuel tank cleaner.

Check fuel hoses for cracks or leakage.
The hoses should be soft and simple to bend.
Replace those that show any sign of wear.

Check the compression.
Screw a compression tester into the spark plug hole, and press the electric starter button.
If no compression exists, contact a Yamaha dealer.
Wipe wet or dirty electrodes with a dry cloth.
The spark plug gap should be checked regularly

Correct the spark plug gap.
Measure the gap with a wire thickness gauge.
If necessary, adjust it to 0.8mm using a screwdriver or replace the spark plug.
Use only a Yamaha-specified spark plug.

Check the Yamaha 660 Grizzly's battery.
Operate its electric starter.
If the Grizzly starts quickly, then its battery is in good condition.
If the engine turns slowly, check the battery lead connections, and you may need to change the battery.
If the engine still does not eventually start, your Grizzly is beyond home repair.

My 05 Yamaha Grizzly 660 will not start. In my limited troublshooting practice I looked at FUEL, FIRE and AIR. Here is the fault, the engine will not start. I checked wires/fuses, plugs, fuel lines and air...

Sounds like you have a stuck float needle in the carbs (2). Usually after a few days with gas in the carb they will free up, you could 'knock' on the carbs with the plastic end of a screwdriver to help free them up. If not, turn off fuel, drain the carbs and fill them with carb cleaner for 24 hours. Redrain, attach fuel lines and turn the gas back on. If still no start it's time for a rebuild...
