Hey Brad
With the info you have provided, it seems to point to the ignition switch as the problem. (the clicking you should hear comes from the solenoid contacts - not the starter button). There is probably one wire in the switch that has broken or come unsoldered or other wise not making the right connection.

SOURCE: grinding noise with or without starter when pull starting or starting with key replaced starter and gear from starter to flywheelold starte had missing teeth and gear did as well

Hey Robert,

Did you ever figure out where the broken teeth went? That's kinda important.. if they went into the engine...well..

Was the gear that the starter gear engaged into damaged? ..if so ..where did the damaged pieces go??

This may be a little more serious than you think.. a trip to a professional might be in order.

Do some digging and repost.

1993 Suzuki King Quad 300 LTF no nutral light and just clickes when starter button is pushed can jump solinoid

Sounds like the nuetral detect switch is bad or the wiring to it is cut. This sensor is on the transmission hub.

Power comes on but engine does not turn over or try to start?

If you get a clicking sound, then it is either your starter solenoid or the battery is low. If you simply get nothing, then it is wiring. Use jumper cables and and jump from an external battery. Go "-" to frame and "+" to the battery side of the solenoid. Push the starter button. It should click and send power to the starter. If it doesn't click then the problem lies with the wiring between the solenoid and starter button, or the solenoid itself. If the solenoid did click but the motor didn't turn over, put your "+" jumper cable directly on the starter motor's external contact. If the motor turns over, your problem is your solenoid. If the starter motor refuses to turn over, then your problem is the starter motor.

Clicking sound when trying to start

Puff Dec 13, 2022

That would be your starter take a screw driver and place it on positive and negative on Starter Relay and if it turns over, check fuses then relay. If it doesn't turn over its your starter.

Sorry it is nearly 9 years late in 'Puff' answering. :>D

2004 arctic cat 500 4x4 starter turns doesnt engage starts with pull cord

The starter has to throw it's gear out using centrifugal force. The speed of the starter has to be enough to overcome the spring inside. It is either a little seized and needs to be rebuilt and greased up, or the battery isn't powered up enough to get the right speed to engage properly. In that case clean the battery posts and clamps well, then charge or replace the battery. To know if the battery is bad wait till it is charged... if it still doesn't engage try again with booster cables from your car etc. and see if it suddenly works fine.

Atv will not start.i have checked all the fuses and inspected wiring harness.all the connections are in tact.could the relay be the problem?

I assume you mean it wont crank with the starter? It could be the solenoid, the neutral sensor, kill switch or the key switch.

When I push the starter button the solenoid clicks, starter does nothing.if I cross the 2 threaded bolts that extend out from the solenoid the starter engages? I just replaced the solenoid and at first it...

Just because it's new, doesn't mean it works.
This is why cars get recalled.

The iron-clan test of a non-working solenoid is to cross the relay terminals. If you do and it starts.. it's bad.

Take it back. you purchased a dud. It happens.
