If its been stuck a long time (which sounds like a good bet) its going to take some force to get them off. maybe bolt a chain to the hub studs then swing a sledgehammer attached to it to jerk it off. if that model has adjusters (think its automatic??) back it off or there might be a button you push behind the rubber plug to release the auto adjusters.

SOURCE: Cannot remove throttle cable or choke cable from the carburator on my Suzuki quadrunner 500 it is a 1998

I would agree, try to soak it with wd40 for a day, then try to remove it. Or you can just dis assemble the would carb to access it.

Hey Carl, Have you checked to see if the piston is sticking in the caliper or have you tried to bleed the system a little?
Try the system bleeding first... shouldn't take much if you have air in the line..(This is the same for the front or rear brakes.)
If you have been riding in mud, dirt, water, (I know-that's where we all ride!)..sometimes the piston (The brake caliper piston - NOT the engine piston) will get a tiny bit of corrosion around it and start sticking..this will cause the brakes to seem if they are on constantly.. IF your progress to diagnose this gets this far.. it is a fix for someone with some experience and knowledge. It requires removal and disassembly of the calipers, cleaning of the caliper, replacing the caliper o-ring, wet sanding the O.D. of the piston with brake fluid and 1200 grit sand paper, then a thorough cleaning of the caliper piston. Then reassembling all these cleaned (and the piston/o-ring lubed with brake fluid). installed back on the atv, ..ALL the brake system fluid should have been replaced and now the system bled completely. If you have more questions, reply to me.

After a winter of light snow plowing my 700 2010 grizzly seems to want to keep going when I apply the brake. Wondering what this may be?

brakes might be out of adjustment or no pads left. you been riding in water ? dirt will get on the brakes and wear the pads out fast especially if it sandy ? pull the tires and check the pads and see if you have any left left, if so, adjust them. you can get a manual on adjusting brakes on yamahas online.

Disc or drum? If they are drum, you let them wear out and they have expanded wider than the inside of the brake hub. If you cannot retract the shoes you are going to have to totally disassemble the entire left side, including brake system. Clamp the brake line off with long nose vise-grips. Then carefully start disassembly.

If they are disc, the piston is stuck, Same process, more complicated to properly successfully repair! I have had some real tough ones over the years!!

Think about a professional?? Unless you live in North Alabama.

How can I fix it if the back breaks have seized?

remove adjustment cover on rear brakes. attempt adj to loosen brakes. if seized in open position (no brakes) try removing hub from axle....if seized closed (applied) spray a lil wd 40 in brake adj hole in rear of backing plate on brakes hardware only try not to get on shoes. wipe excess from shoes as soon as possible spray w/carb cieaner wipe till no oily spots on brakes. you will find costly repairs inside either way if corrosion has gotten so bad to pit alluminum maybe replace atv b cheaper.
