Remove drive chain and try to turn rear wheels. If wheels rotate it must be transmission.

What direction should my starter turn on my artic cat

all engines turn in an anticlockwise direction when viewed from the flywheel end
so if you starter is alongside the engine it will rotate in a clockwise at the pinion end but if alongside the transmission it will be opposite to drive the flywheel in the anticlockwise direction

Yamaha Timberwolf. How can I find model number to order parts

If you can tell me your vin - or your year I can tell you what model you have. But - if you go onto any parts site - such as or partsmonster - you name it - you won't need your 'model' # - just your year. You'd click - Yamaha OEM Parts, then ATV then Year - 1992 - 1998 was the Timberwolf - a lot of parts from the 99 - 04 Bear Tracker will work (just about only changed the plastics and carb in 99 - 04) same engine/transmission/rear end, etc. the brakes also went from drum to disc - but you'd click on the year - and then look - the timberwolf will be right there the 1992 - 1998 Yamaha Timberwolf 250 - I can't remember if they offered a timberwolf 350. If you can tell me the vin or year - like I said - I'll reply with your exact model # - but you can buy and order most parts just by model name and year 95 Timberwolf.

When running my speedometer is dead.

Hi Peter.

Most all speedometers are connected to your transmission by a large-gauge cable that connects to the transmission wall and to the back of your instrument cluster. It has a cable inside that is coupled to the final gear ratio (wheel RPM) and spins with it. The spinning at the other end, turns a magnet that will affect how the speedometer needle rises against a spring. (If it's a digital read-out, never mind, it'll all be data cables and an RPM sensor somewhere). Most likely the cable is broken or detached. Less likely but possible, the gauge itself is broken. They don't tend to be high wear, though all bets are off on an ATV. Look for the cable. make sure it's seated snugly on both ends, and consider replacing it if nothing else works.

Good Luck

What is the lever on the transmission of the Buck 500 4/wheeler fot

It locks up the differential. Positraction. Leave it OFF if using on paved surfaces. Leaving it locked will increase tire wear on hard surfaces. Use only on areas where more traction would be required.

the rear differentials have been known to have some problems. you may have to open up the differential to make sure there are not broken or badly worn pieces inside. also check your u-joints.

Rear wheels lock up at high speeds

Sounds like a bent axle.... or something in the rear differential. ...the heat generated by the bent axle will cause all the clearances to disappear!!!

4 wheel drive locks in one side one side will not some times makes a sound to if 2 sides are in

Model? If you put it in regular 4WD it will usually only spin one tire. If you have diff lock and use it, it locks both front wheels but can be hard on front end parts. The front end will do some clanking and popping because it doesn\'t really like diff lock.

The belt and pulleys are probably not the cause with the sound you are describing. To me it sounds more mechanical when you say grinding. Have you checked the rear dif?
