How to set my timing on my 2012 Arctic cat 425i

Spark timing or valve timing.

Spark time is fixed and controlled by the crank trigger. There is only two things that can change spark timing. a twisted crank ( very rare ) a sheared flywheel key (Also very rare)

Valve timing, remove the timing inspection plug and the the pull start housing, you will use the nut on the crankshaft under the pull start to turn the crank to bring the timing mark TDC-COMPRESSION STROKE - into the timing inspection hole. remove the spark plug so your not fighting engine compression to turn the motor.

Now remove the the valve cover and check the alignment line on the cam. the alignment line should be level with the top of the edges of the cylinder. if not you have a problem

05 700 King quad with timing marks all lined up should all 4 valves open at almost the same time intake and exhaust open on exhaust stroke????

the exhaust and inlet valves will be moving if you rock the crank back and forward at TDC
this is called valve overlap and indicates that you are timing the valves on the exhaust stoke tdc and not the compression stroke tdc
turn the crank over till you get tdc again and see if the inlet and exhaust valves have clearance and the timing marks line up
timing is done only on no 1 piston TDC position compression stroke

Why my won't my 2008 Yamaha Rhino 700 start. Has good battery. Cranks over. No codes. Good spark.

If you are only getting 65lbs of compression, remedying that would be my next move!! .. I have seen some run as low as 85lbs..run very poor too.. but never at 65lbs. You should let the engine turn over for about 5 seconds to get compression level.

I put a 102mm piston on it with 11:1 compression and now when you try to start its hard to turn over. Ive put a new starter bigger battery and checked all wiring connections but nothing has helped....

STOP TRYING TO START THIS ATV!!!

..Sounds like the valves are hitting the piston!!

Did you/your mechanic check the valve to piston clearance at max valve lift/PISTON HEIGHT??..you need at least .035" (.89mm) on the intake and .060" (1.5mm) on the exhaust.- MINIMUM - . THIS IS CRITICAL!!!

.
.....
11:1 is a pretty tall compression ratio. Are you racing this atv?.. one thing you will find out is that you NEED TO RUN HI-OCTANE fuel..NOT airplane fuel either (its got antifreeze and other additives you so not want to deal with)..11:1 might require a 110 OCTANE race gas to get it to run right... make SURE the timing is RIGHT!!..with this much compression the right fuel, timing, valve clearance, cam timing, etc, MUST be perfect!!!
