Question about ATVs
In my experience when the 4x4 comes and goes on Polaris 4x4 quads there is a bad wire somewhere that is causing the engagement off all the wheels to be shaky or not work at all. If the battery is low , the stator is not charging right, or you have a bad wire in the 4x4 system NO 4 wheel drive. I would run a test on battery first , then charging system. The discount tool store with initials HF sells $5. charging system/battery tester that comes in very handy for this. If those items are good you most likely have a short somewhere that comes into play when quad gets wet , bounced around for a while, or hot. I hope this helps .

Are you running manufacturers recommended oil or some other brand? Oil is oil ... not true every manufacture pretty much has there own recipe if you will... clean out your oil tank and fill with manufacturers recommendations. next question are you running the recommended spark plug. And the last question are you out riding this putting it through its paces or just kida puttin around. These are the most obvious things to check that generally correct oil fouled spark plugs... I hope it helps

SOURCE: 500 scrambler stuck in gear
i had a similiar problem on my 500 sportsman. when pressure is against the bike it is hard to shift out of gear. also, sometimes the linkages get siezed and need a little lube or the gear selector may be froze up. try taking some lube and spraying all these. if the bike sat up for awhile these may be the case, but if not then you need to have it looked into, as the transmission might have damage internally.
