2004 700 sportsman

I have got a noise that has became louder and louder with time. Sounds like the tranny brake. When it was brand new when I would go down a steep hill it would clink and clonk but now it is everytime I let off the throttle. What and why is this

Check the PVT drive belt for wear. 1-3/16 inch wide new...wear limit 1-1/8 inch. Drive belt deflection is 1-1/8 (if excessive it will require shims on PVT shafts to adjust).

Just replaced new gears and the stater in a 2005 polaris 90 sportsman,,revs up fine in neutral,,but once in gear loses power and want pull ,then dies if you keep trying,,starts right back up no problem


I know virtually nothing about a 2005 Polaris 90 Sportsman, but your problem sounds like it could be a fuel starvation problem. Check the fuel filter (assuming it has one!). Good luck!

My Polaris 700 sportsman runs great in low and won't go hardly at all in high....my foot brake is not working atall..could that be the problem


The rear brakes either need bled or a new rear master cylinder installed. As far as the gears, it sounds like the secondary clutch buttons are worn out. Unfortunately there is no easy do it yourself fix. The secondary clutch is wound with a spring and splined under tension, and the dealer will have the tools to disassemble and repair. Daniel

Tranny works, shifter wont shift the gears. how to fix?


My 2005 Polaris ATP 500 requires I depress the right foot brake while shifting into reverse or down into low range. Perhaps some adjustment on the foot brake to make this work. Also check linkage to make sure it is not binding. Others say if the idle speed is too high, you may not be able to shift. Try shifting with the engine off to see if it goes into the gears, using the foot brake. If yes, try again while at low idle speed.

Wont start , n when i push the thotle it turns off what can i do ??


sounds like you need a new camshaft and exhaust rocker arm. they are a very common problem and i had 2 sportsmans that did exactly the same thing. you can buy high quality forged camshafts on ebay that will not wear out like stock polaris or cheap aftermarket cams.

sounds like the connecting rod on the crankshaft.
i would inspect the primary clutch first before an engine teardown. Sometimes the engine shifts on the engine mounts and the clutch hits the cover, also check to make sure belt is not slapping around in cover.

Check Float Height and reset the airscrew to around 1 -1 1/2 and make sure all jets are clean
