Did you check the Ignition fuse to see if it is good? If that is good it may be a problem in your switch.

I put a new ground from battery too frame and left the ones Polaris put on from battery to motor and then motor to frame and still no change would my C.D.I be shorting out? I rerad up on line of others haveing simmaler problems and see that these 500 have lots of problems with wires. Would it be best for me to replace everything or just part the bike out? I owned many Polaris 2strokes and only thing with them is keeping pistons in them lol. This is my first 4stroke and I have not even road it yet the origanel owner got it new from dealerand quit on him he had it to many places and nothing he got sick of paying people to look and not fix so he put in barn 2002(sorry earlyer I said 2000 was wrong)I got it 2 weeks ago cheapeverything works on bike just has the spark problem.

SOURCE: I was riding my polaris sportsman 800 and it lost all power

We found the problem. The wire that is shorting out is on the right side down by the front axle shaft by the gearcase. The spinning of the axle has wore through the coating on the wire and was direct shorting it. Hope this is your problem also.

SOURCE: 2003 sportsman 500 no spark

ksweeten1 is talking about the pulsur coil. also sometimes the the spark plug wire breaks which usually happens when you are riding. Also if any power wire breaks or is loosened, even to a tail light it can cause this.

SOURCE: polaris 500 sportsman awd not working

the usual problem with those is either the switch itself or the magnetic hubs at the front wheels
The factory service manual will tell you how to check both

My 1999 artic cat 500 4x4 has no power, battery completely charged but nothing to my relay, bike will not start with the pull start

Make sure the kill switch/etc is not in the OFF position!
..Check to see if the spark plug will fire..this will be a two man job... if not..proceed with the following..
... Disconnect the battery.. check the voltage... should be 12.5+ volts if its fully charged..
Reconnect the battery... MAKE SURE you have a thick wire from the battery to the solenoid... now...check the voltage on the +wire from the battery at the solenoid stud.. should be 12.5+ volts..(same as battery)..
If you have voltage at the solenoid, take a screwdriver and jump between the main threaded studs of the solenoid.. it should turn the engine over.. if not.. you have a bad solenoid..OR NO voltage!!

Do this and repost with the results...

Nothing when turn key. Bought new battery and fully charged, installed, still nothing.

Hello,
The "ticking" you hear is probably the solenoid trying to "connect"
The solenoid is the round thing that is the first thing the large red cable from the battery runs to. There are more wires connected to the solenoid..the TWO big ones carry the power from the battery and then jump it to the BIG cable that goes directly to the starter. You can CAREFULLY "jump" the two big connectors ON the solenoid with a screwdriver ( CAREFUL - SPARKS WILL FLY!). If the motor turns over you have a bad solenoid. Key does not have to be on, you just want the motor to turn over. NO open fuel sources!! SPARKS WILL FLY WHEN YOU JUMP.
Try this and repost, let me know.

1999 Polaris sportsman 500 electric start & headlights or fan will work,

If you check the wires on the battery, the solenoid, and and your ground cable - one loose main and you're dead in the water - after that - you'll need to confirm that you're getting power to one side of the solenoid and when the key is turned to the other post. - also - you need to check your kill switch that it didn't dive in the off position. If you can confirm that all the wires are tight and you're getting power across the solenoid I can lead you from there if need be

Power comes on but engine does not turn over or try to start?

If you get a clicking sound, then it is either your starter solenoid or the battery is low. If you simply get nothing, then it is wiring. Use jumper cables and and jump from an external battery. Go "-" to frame and "+" to the battery side of the solenoid. Push the starter button. It should click and send power to the starter. If it doesn't click then the problem lies with the wiring between the solenoid and starter button, or the solenoid itself. If the solenoid did click but the motor didn't turn over, put your "+" jumper cable directly on the starter motor's external contact. If the motor turns over, your problem is your solenoid. If the starter motor refuses to turn over, then your problem is the starter motor.

I got a sportsman Polaris 500 its a 97 ok I got a solenoid and it a universal atv/utv I got fire everywhere except my starter coming from solenoid

Make sure you have at least 12.5v at the battery. Then make sure you are getting the same voltage at the solenoid. You should at least hear a click. If you are getting voltage at the solenoid put your test leads so that you can test for voltage on the wire going to the starter. Make sure your other lead is grounded at the batt. Turn key in, in neutral as if you are going to start and push the start button. You should get a voltage reading. If nothing it is your starter solenoid/relay or button. If you do get voltage time to pull that starter!

2004 arctic cat 500 4x4 starter turns doesnt engage starts with pull cord

The starter has to throw it's gear out using centrifugal force. The speed of the starter has to be enough to overcome the spring inside. It is either a little seized and needs to be rebuilt and greased up, or the battery isn't powered up enough to get the right speed to engage properly. In that case clean the battery posts and clamps well, then charge or replace the battery. To know if the battery is bad wait till it is charged... if it still doesn't engage try again with booster cables from your car etc. and see if it suddenly works fine.
