Question about Polaris ATV

Replacing spark plug cap ..The lil metal piece came out...can It be put back in??

The lil metal piece inside the boot or cap at the end of the spark plug wire came out..How does it go back on??

    Maybe mine is a lil different...My spark plug cap actually has a screw in it..The s.p. wire actually screws into the s.p., wire

This plug clip is crimped onto the wire,you will have to slid the wire end further out of the boot spread open the clip and put wire back in posistion and recrimp clip to wire exterior insulation.make sure a little of the interior wire is exposed to help make good contact with spark plug tip then grab wire behind boot and pull back in to the boot.....hope this solves your problem. chris

I have a 2016 Polaris sportsman 570 she's got a fuel pump tries starting her she will keep winding over but won't start any help would be nice

Make sure the kill switch is in the run position.

AN engine need three things to run:
Timed spark

1*. Check the spark plug to make sure it is firing.. remove the spark plug.. make sure you have metal to metal contact and then turn the engine over.. (this might be a two man job).. the spark plug should have a nice big blue white spark,,(some electronic's will have a weak orange and still fire fine!)
2. Make sure you have gas in the tank and (going into the carb/FI)... (have to ask-actually have had 3 bikes in my career come in complaining -won't start...!! Add gas and they ran.. WOW!.. never charged any of them....the embarrassment on their face was payment enough!)
3*. While the spark plug is out... place your finger over the spark plug hole firmly .. keep the spark plug cap away from your hand..turn the engine over and see if it will blow your finger off..(it should blow it off the hole easily).

If any one of these three are not nearly perfect.. you have an issue!!

Atv not starting at all

What's your year, make, model and engine? - And one question - the insulator/boot that connects your carb to your head: does it have a hard plastic shell or metal/rubber, rubber? The older Yamaha Bear Trackers and the like had a boot that was a metal housing that bolted to the head with a rubber boot glued to that where your carb attached with a hose clamp. Those boots? Garbage. Just a matter of time. The slightest hairline crack can cause a starve situation - you CANNOT create the vacuum needed for the carb to suck fuel out of the bottom/bowl if there is a leak at that boot. As the engine creates the vacuum that would pull that gas - the vacuum escapes from that crack in that boot. You MUST HAVE PROPER back pressure vacuum to pull the fuel out of that carb. Here's an easy test - if you can get it to turn over - then do it. A few good tries. Make sure your spark plug is clean and dry prior to doing this. After a few good tries - pull that plug out and let me know what it looks like. If it's dry? More than likely your loosing vacuum somewhere - you are not pulling fuel out of the carb and into the engine if that plug is bone dry. If it's drenched but nothing is happening you may have an electrical issue. Nothing major. It's either getting fuel in that chamber or it's not - find that out and we'll go from there. I have trouble with my all wheel drive it's an 02 sportsman 700 twin what should I start looking for

I first check both spark plug and coil.. Pull spark plug out and visually inspect for any dirt touching both electrodes... Next, Plug the spark plug back into the spark plug lead and earth it to the motor(make sure the spark plug is touching metal)then try turning the motor to see if the spark plug is sparking...
Also the link below is a short YouTube video showing the right colour spark and I never thought about it but it should spark over the top of the centre electrode,
How to check for Spark Plug Fire in any engine
If it does spark then it's a fuel problem. Check the needle and seat in your carby, You need to pull your carby off and unscrew the bottom half from the top, 1st sign of a needle stuck inside the seat
is a dry carby There you'll find the float, push the float up and down and see if the needle above
the float slides up and down from the seat, If the needle stays up then it's stuck and NOT letting
the fuel into the carby, Just pull it down with your fingers to loosen it up..I hope this helps.... CHEERS..

No spark at spark plug could the coil be bad and how do you test it ?

put an insulation screw driver in the wire end that connects to the cap, obviously disconnecting it from the cap. Crank over and move metal part of screw driver next to some metal and you should see a spark coming from the wire to ground if coil is good.

There is no fire to the spark plugs but will turn over what to check

First replace the spark plug with a new one. Then check the wires from the positive terminal on the battery to the coil and then to plugs. Put a 12 volt tester on the positive wires and the battery ground or any metal on the engine to see if circuit is hot. Hope this helps. Make sure you test the plug wire as well.

I have a 2001 yamaha bear tracker and im having engine combustion problems. No combustion

You need to narrow your question. Are you getting a spark? Take off the lead (boot) at night and see if you get a good spark arc jump to metal by leaving a small air gap between the boot and a piece of metal on the engine. If you aren;t getting a spark, ignition coil is a common problem and sometimes the elctronic ignition unit Are you having mixture problems? Carburetors are common issues and I've addressed them frequently on this site. The other issue is engine timing. Check for loose wires and the kill wire to the ignition (key) switch.

Check for spark at spark plugs then check fuel and fuel filter .

Troubleshooting a small Petrol engine that won't start requires a series of short tests and the process of elimination.
Understanding the principles of how a small engine operates is helpful but not necessary.
Proper disposal of hazardous liquids will be required.
The knowledge gained in the performance of this procedure can be applied to many different types and sizes of internal combustion engines.
The average weekend mechanic can complete the process in about an hour.
Put on the safety glasses.
Remove the gas cap and check that there is gas in the fuel tank.
Look at the inline gas cutoff valve located below the gas tank on the fuel line and make sure it is in the on position, with the knob turned straight in line with the fuel line.
Look at the spark plug and check that the wire is securely plugged onto the plug.
Try to turn the spark plug by hand and make sure it is screwed firmly into the hole.
Look at the ground strap by the spark plug and make sure it is not touching the spark plug.
Look at the kill switch located by the controls and make sure it is in the run position.

Remove the air filter by unsnapping its box-like cover or removing the wing nut that holds it onto the carburetor.
Lift the air filter out of the holder and set it aside.
Spray a shot of starting fluid from the aerosol can into the empty air filter area of the carburetor and try to start the engine.
Let the engine run about 30 seconds or until it dies.

Eliminate the electrical system as the cause of the problem if the engine started right up, ran a few moments, and quit.
Remove the gas line from the carburetor by loosening its hose clamp with the screwdriver kit.
Hold the fuel line over the clear glass container and let some gas run into it.
Look at the gas, checking for water and impurities.

Drain the gas tank if the gas looked impure.
Remove the gas filter from the fuel line by loosening its hose clamps with the screwdriver kit.
Replace the gas filter with a new one if the gas did not run into the glass at a rapid pace.
Reinstall the gas line and gas filter.
Fill the gas tank with new gas.

Find a small drain bolt located on the very bottom middle of the carburetor.
Place a small container that gas won't melt under it and remove it with the wrench kit.
Let the old gas drain out of the bottom until the new gas starts to flow out. Screw the drain bolt back into the bottom of the carburetor.

Clean up any spilled gas off the motor and elsewhere with the shop rag.
Place the rag in the metal bucket a safe distance from the work area.
Clean the air filter with warm, soapy water if it is the spongy type, or replace it with a new one.
Install the air filter. Start the engine.

Unplug the spark plug wire from the spark plug if the engine did not start.
Hold the insulated part of the spark plug wire with one hand and place the bare part about 1/4 inch away from the top of the spark plug.

Try to start the engine and watch for a spark between the wire and the plug. Replace the spark plug wire with a new one if it shocked you through the insulation.
Remove the spark plug using the spark plug wrench and replace it with a new one if there was a spark.
Try to start the engine. Let the engine run until it performs smoothly.

Do not do anything else if there was no spark, as the trouble is inside the internal workings of the engine and requires professional repair and tools.

What will make four wheeler die when riding in shallow water.

The boot on the spark plug wire is cracked torn or gone,, or old and gotin hard and dont seal off the plug end on off,,, the rubber boot should be flexable and have a small round deal on it that seals off the plug from water,, some times when you change the plug the rubber plug seal falls off of the boot,,,
