What direction should my starter turn on my artic cat

all engines turn in an anticlockwise direction when viewed from the flywheel end
so if you starter is alongside the engine it will rotate in a clockwise at the pinion end but if alongside the transmission it will be opposite to drive the flywheel in the anticlockwise direction

I have a 400 Polaris I replaced the starter and the bendix , with the spark plug out it will turn over and fire but when you put the plug in it will turn over and then the bendix kicks out...any ideas

have you tested it with a booster pack with the negative clamp directly on the engine and the positive clamp directly on the bendix

I replaced starter and solenoid but didn't tag my wires to solenoid. I know the basics, 2 lugs to batt and starter 1 to ingition. Where do extra wires go?

As mishaps go...

This is way BETTER than having to re-grow your eyebrows!

Even a USABLE picture (cell phone... not that selfie) before you started would HAVE BEEN helpful. An excellent key learning to take away from this experience.

This area on ATVs is a popular place to DISTRIBUTE power... So popular, as a matter of fact, my guess is you can't even KEY start
your un-identified (make, model, year, color or country of origin)... yes/no?

Since the "other" big wire terminal goes directly to the starter... that isn't it...

The little (small gauge) terminal to ACTIVATE the solenoid comes from the ignition switch ("S" lead) is cold as a cucumber

That's not it either...

So put all those loose wires go on the HOT LEAD from the battery...

"Tag my wires"... indeed...

(and then watch fire and smoke (I'm just saying)...!!

You can avoid serious burns and wasted (EMERGENCY ROOM) time by disconnecting the GROUND terminal BEFORE you start... and put it back when everything has been completed.

Lotsa luck sparky!

Yahama 2004 660 grizzle when i turn on the key all lights come on like normal but when i press the starter button i hear one click then all lights go off and does not start

There are a few directions to check but you need to be handy at tracing wires and checking connections and power points. The first thing after making sure the battery has a good charge would be to check for loose or corroded connections starting at the battery and working your way to the starter connection. A connection can have corrosion even if it looks tight and when a heavier load is applied it will fail. It sounds like there is a starter relay to cut power to the lights when starting. If you can find it and check it for power output there should be power going to the starter when it clicks. A direct wire from the battery to the starter will make sure that the starter I ok.

1994 Polaris 30 2x4 - pullstart word twie. Fan lights etc worked. Replae the battery. Nothing. New solenoid. Nothng. New Circuit breaker. Stiil nothing! Please help

Did you check the starter button before all this? Trace the wiring from the handlebars for continuity. Local option is go direct to the solenoid, bypass the relay wiring and operate it direct by shorting a piece of heavy cable or a screwdriver across the solenoid heavy terminals. If the starter runs then recheck all the wiring a section at a time. You fell into the trap of changing parts without justification in a get lucky scenario.

Was installing a winch on my 2009 prowler 700 xtx hooked positive cable to selanoid winch did not work, hooked direct to battery, works, rig wont start

Where did you ground the winch motor? You need a separate, heavy duty, switch with a relay to transfer the positive side voltage properly... DO NOT ground to the battery..use a clean, free of paint, place to ground. You may have fried the solenoid..do not connect the positive side to the solenoid. Direct connection to the + battery from the relay is good with a good waterproof fuse in line. Sometimes I have seen the "maint. free" batteries die when used "wrong" and still show 13 volts+.

Engine runs fine .no charge. stator good 14.5v comming from rectorfire.only tweelve at battery

Sounds like a broken wire or bad connection. Try running a wire direct from the rectifier to the battery. If all good just make this permanent or check the existing wires.
